Over the past few months since the horrific Shraddha Walkar murder by Aaftab Poonawala came to light in Delhi, mainstream media has gone overboard debating domestic violence in live-in relationships.
While there was no doubt that the murder reported in the capital was spine chilling, media will mostly remain mum on a similar case, which has now been reported from Guwahati in Assam.
The incident happened in August last year, however, has come to light several months after the murder.
Case:
A Guwahati woman identified as Bandana Kalita allegedly killed her husband Amarjyoti Dey and mother-in-law Shankari Dey, and stored their body parts in a freezer for a few days before throwing them in a river.
This gruesome murder took place on August 17, 2022, but came to light only on February 19 this year. According to a press release by police, the accused woman has confessed to her crime.
Murder
The accused woman informed police that she murdered her husband and mother-in-law, cut their bodies into multiple pieces and stored them inside a refrigerator. Bandana was aided in the murder by her partner Arup Deka and friend Dhanjit Dekashe.
The trio later dumped the chopped body pieces in different parts of Meghalaya. The husband’s body was thrown in Dawki and the mother-in-law’s body was disposed of in Cherrapunji.
The accused wife then left the rented home and came back on August 21, 2022, to clean the house.
The neighbours told police that they saw the accused wife when she had returned to clean her house and also saw her burning the bed and other clothes on the terrace.
Action by Police
After arresting the wife, police is currently investigating the case and trying to find out the motive behind the brutal murder.
Meanwhile, both the accomplices of the accused woman have been sent to police custody. Further investigations into the case are underway.
