A recent OTT release showed us how women face domestic violence at home and the same film also promoted revenge violence against the abusive husband.
While women in India have numerous laws in their favour to stand up against such violence, men unfortunately can only file for divorce. In most cases, men are turned back from police stations mocking their trauma as ‘ghar ka maamla’.
In a recent case reported from Tamil Nadu, a woman poured hot water on her husband’s private part, as she suspected him of infidelity. However, the woman has been booked in this case.
32-year-old husband L Thangaraj works as a supervisor at a private firm in Sriperumbudur. His 29-year-old wife T Priya, who suspected him of having an extra-marital affair, poured hot water on his private parts while he was fast asleep in his house in a village near in Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu.
The couple was married for past seven years, and has a son and a daughter.
Thangaraj sustained 50% burn injuries in his private parts. He was admitted to Walajah Government General Hospital and was later referred to Vellore Government Hospital Adukkamparai for advanced treatment.
Domestic Violence On Husband
The couple reportedly used to quarrel frequently after the woman started suspecting her husband’s fidelity. After one such quarrel, Thangaraj went to sleep in the room in the early hours of Saturday.
In a fit of rage, Priya collected hot water in a bucket from the geyser in the bathroom and poured it on the private parts of her husband when he was sleeping. Thangaraj sustained burn injuries and screamed for help. His neighbours rushed to his rescue and rushed him to hospital.
The Kaveripakkam police has booked the accused wife under sections 294 (b) (obscene acts and songs), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 506 (ii) (if threat be to cause death or grievous hurt) of the IPC and began investigations.
