Domestic Violence is a reality and unfortunately the same has become visually synonymous only with Woman being the victim. However, though the official numbers are never reported by NCRB or any other government agency, the existence of Domestic Violence Against Men by abusive Wives/Female Partners is equally dark and rampant.
Over hundred volunteers of a Delhi based NGO, Men Welfare Trust, marched at the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon this morning. As the participants chose to dress up in black, several of these men also had wounds, scratch marks, swollen eyes, bandages on their bodies done up by professional artists – to demonstrate how Domestic Violence Has No Gender!

Currently, in India, Domestic Violence Law is only applicable for Women. The idea behind this NGO’s walk, was to highlight the issue of Domestic Violence Against Men and the absence of Gender Neutral Laws that can protect men as well, when they are victims of such crimes.
The NGO carried placards with messages on rising male suicides, inequality in laws, parental alienation etc. as they walked shouting slogans raising their voice for the cause of men’s rights.

Not To Miss!
The highlight of the group were two persons dressed up as bride and groom, showing one of them as husband – victim of domestic violence – and the other as the abusive and violent wife beating him.
These scenes are not funny anymore and one must raise the issue of DV Against Men with utmost sincerity as they do for traumatised Women.
One of the activists, Priyash Bhargava said that they have been participating at the Delhi Marathon since many years now and every time they come up with a unique theme, which becomes the center of attraction year on year. He said,
This time the theme was Domestic Violence on Men and while most of the world has gender neutral laws and men are also protected if they are victimised, India still follows gender-biased laws, thereby, leaving men with no protection if they are victims of such violence at home.
Volunteer of @MenWelfare @SFFNGO at the #DelhiHalfMarathon demand to Stop Domestic Violence on Men, Formation of Men Commission, Stop misuse of Law like CRPC125, 498A, DV Act, Rape & sexual harassments law, Gender Neutral Law to protect both Men/Women equally. #StopAbuseMen pic.twitter.com/LVU2YECA4b

Inder, another core activist said,
Laws such as Domestic Violence Act 2005, Section 498-A IPC are already so lopsided and prone to misuse, that innocent men are suffering and many of them give up on their lives too.
Instead of curbing the misuse of laws, now another completely one sided Marital Rape Law is on its way, which has the potential to be blatantly misused to settle scores and cash in from failed marriages.
