In yet another unfortunate incident reported this time from Madhya Pradesh, an army colonel ended his life as he was allegedly undergoing matrimonial problems.
Case:
43-year-old Colonel Nishith Khanna of the Indian Army allegedly died by suicide by hanging at a training centre in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur city on January 22, 2023.
As per a report by PTI, City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Priyanka Shukla said,
Khanna was posted as Commanding Officer in the 1-Technical Training Regiment (TTR). His found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room of the officers’ mess in the One Signal Training Centre at around 10.30 pm on Jan 22.
The police also recovered a five-page suicide note purportedly written by the dead Army officer stating he was “sorry“.
Police Investigation
According to Shukla, preliminary investigation suggested a family dispute could be the reason behind Colonel Khanna taking the extreme step. She added,
The Army officer was staying away from his family, which included his wife, son and daughter, since October 25, 2022.
In another media byte to Times of India, Shukla said,
The 1 TTR commanding officer was allotted a bungalow at Adhikari Enclave in Jabalpur but was living in the mess for the last few months owing to some personal reasons.
A senior officer tried calling him repeatedly on Jan 22. When he didn’t respond, officers living in the adjacent rooms were asked to check on him. When they peered into the room through a window, they saw him hanging.
They broke down the door and tried to resuscitate him. He was immediately taken to the military hospital where he was declared dead. Then, the local police station was informed.
Shukla also said that the exact reason behind the suicide “cannot be revealed as it was it too personal.”
Colonel Khanna is survived by his wife and two children, a 15-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son.
