Gender Equality campaigns and hashtags are only in vogue on social media. Come to reality, do we ever see women marrying men with lower salaries…or even equal salaries? Most often the biodata uploaded by women on matrimonial sites would be seeking alliance from men who are earning a minimum of 3x of their CTC.
Amidst this gender debate, the tech industry has been witnessing massive layoffs in the past two months. Several lives have been disrupted overnight, which has also had implications on re-looking at personal investments and expense outflows.
Voice For Men India came across an interesting query on BLIND, an online anonymous professional network, where a working woman posted the below question to her fellow online community. The woman asked:
Upcoming husband got laid off in Microsoft layoffs, Should I still marry him?
It’s arranged marriage planned planned for Feb, he got laid off recently and my family is aware of it..
I’m not sure should I still marry him or not
My husband’s TC: 250k
PS :I’m in India presently.
When the users started taunting at her, the woman defended herself and wrote:
I earn by myself man. What’s wrong in thinking financial stability if anyways it’s arranged marriage.
Here are some of the responses she received:
He’s from Microsoft ! how long it’ll take him to get another job ? Are you serious ? God forbid if it would’ve happened post marriage then would you divorce him ?
Switch the scenario and introspect. If you find that fair, go ahead.
Typical lady thinking , “my money is my money, your money is our money” that’s why i am afraid of this female breed.
Seriously if you can’t support him just before marriage then what is the point of marrying someone. What if he had lost the job after marriage will you divorce him for that? How would you feel if roles are reversed? What a toxic person.
Why are women like this always?! Don’t they have no shame in at least openly talking about their hypergamous nature?
“He got laid off should I marry him” translates to umm he will have less money(laid off) should I marry him.
What if that person turns and asks you I want dowry (i hate to say this but still).
You will be all over blind and linkedin and TOI OMG he asked for dowry and will make sure that he lands up in jail.
Unfortunately, this kind of dowry exists for males in India. Most females are there for the bag and it’s not even illegal. The guy should make way more than she is a capable of!
So if you lose your job no one should marry you? What a load of 💩
What are your thoughts on this?
- Is it fair for women to look for secured stable men…what’s the fuss! OR
- Shouldn’t women practice equality and support their men irrespective of unforeseen challenges?
