With cases like these, one can only conclude how laws in India are completely lopsided in favour of women, and one doesn’t even need to identify a dead body, before throwing the accused husband in jail, on charges of his wife’s murder.
Such cases also speak volumes about how justice comes at a cost, and if you are a poor man who cannot afford fees of a lawyer to defend you, then perhaps you need to languish in jail for months, years and even decades, till your innocence is proven.
Case:
Kandhai from Uttar Pradesh was given 10-years jail term for the murder of his wife Ramvati. In 2017, the accused husband spent 6-months in jail, after which he was granted bail from the high court.
Now shockingly, the ‘dead wife’ has been found living at her sister’s house in Bahraich. The incident was reported from Ramgaon police station area of the district on Saturday evening.

On Saturday, a relative of Kandhai informed him that he had spotted Ramavati at her brother-in-law’s residence. Kumar said,
Kandhai later informed his other relatives who reached the spot, only to be joined by the entire village population outside the residence of Ramvati’s brother-in-law to witness the impossible. Later, police were also informed about the same.
A police team led by SHO Ramgaon Sanjay Singh reached the spot along with the women police team where Ramvati was present. She was taken to One Stop Centre where women affected by violence are given shelter.
