Earlier this month, not just Delhi, but entire country was shocked on the gruesome details of Shraddha Walkar murder by her live-in partner Aftab Amin Poonawala. While our feminist spinners were quick to run endless debates and shows on domestic violence by partner/husbands against women, most of them have refrained from even tweeting about the below case. The ones who have, are also indulging in victim shaming.
Delhi Police’s crime branch on Monday has arrested a woman and her son for killing her husband, chopping the body into ten pieces and keeping them in a refrigerator. The police has also recovered a CCTV footage of the mother-son duo disposing off the body parts in different areas of Pandav Nagar and East Delhi.

Case:
The victim has been identified as Anjan Das, a resident of Pandav Nagar, who was murdered by his wife Poonam Das and son Deepak Das. Anjan Das used to work as a lift man.
According to the officials, the residence of the accused, where the incident of murder took place, is in Trilokpuri area of Delhi.
Background:
Anjan Das was Poonam’s second husband (since 2017). Deepak Das is Poonam’s son from her first husband – Kallu – who died in 2016. The two have confessed to their crimes, police said.
The police said that Poonam was furious after she learnt that her husband had sold her jewellery and sent the money to his first wife, who lived in Bihar with their eight children.
Murder
Speaking with TOI, Yadav said,
Situation in Anjan’s family worsened after Deepak got married and the deceased use to allegedly have ill intentions towards his wife and one of Deepak’s sisters who used to live with them. They were also concerned that Anjan used to take all their earnings but wasn’t earning himself.
Adding further, Amit Goel, DCP crime, Delhi Police said,
The CCTV cameras in the neighbourhood showcased Deepak walking with a bag in his hand late at night. His mother Poonam was seen following him.
On June 5, some body parts were recovered in Ramlila maidan. In next 3 days, two legs, two thighs, a skull & a forearm were recovered and then the case was filed.

Goel then said that efforts were made to identify the body. It seemed like a gruesome murder. Footages were analysed, door-to-door verification was done and body was identified, said Goel.
Adding further, Goel shared,
On May 30, the mother-son made Anjan drink liquor and mixed sleeping pills in it. Then they slit his throat & left the body in the home for a day for the blood to drain out completely. Then they chopped off body into pieces.
Accused Wife’s Statement
On being questioned, Poonam said,
Anjan used to have ill intentions towards my children that’s why I did it. My son killed him with a knife, I didn’t do it.
The police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence and giving false information) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Pandav Nagar police station.
VFMI Take:
- Social media champions who were screaming to hang Aftab Poonawala, have suddenly started justifying and labelling Anjan Das a a domestic abuser and a womaniser
- Can the statement of an accused be ever taken as gospel truth?
- Lets assume there is absolute genuineness in the allegations made against the deceased, yet can such a horrific premeditated murder be justified?
