Can you imagine being in jail on charges of a murder…that never happened? A man from Uttar Pradesh has spent 7-years in jail for murdering a woman, however, the dead person has now been traced living a normal life with her husband and children.
Case:
In 2015, a man from Aligarh named Vishnu, who worked as a labourer in his 20s, was convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment for allegedly murdering a 14-year-old girl (back then). The accused was thrown in jail after parents of the alleged victim lodged a missing persons complaint with the concerned police station. Vishnu was accused of kidnapping and killing the girl when she was a teenager.
Now in 2022, the dead girl, (woman) has been found alive, married and living in Hathras district of UP.

According to police, the minor girl had allegedly eloped with her lover and married him. The couple later shifted to a village in Hathras district, as reported by TOI.
Speaking with The Indian Express, a police officer said,
A few days later, the body of a girl was recovered in Agra. The girl’s father went to Agra and identified the body as that of his missing daughter.
An FIR was lodged against girl’s neighbour on charges of kidnapping and murder in Aligarh. Police also invoked the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the youth. He was arrested and sent to jail.

A police officer also informed media, that around three years after the incident, the accused was released on bail. However, as he did not attend court proceedings, a non-bailable warrant was issued against him. The accused later surrendered before court which sent him to judicial custody.
Vishnu’s Mother Demands Justice
It was Vishnu’s mother Sunita who had been consistently pursuing this matter since she had information about the ‘dead’ woman and her whereabouts. Sunita had earlier met Aligarh Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kalanidhi Naithani and reportedly informed him that the ‘dead’ girl was not only alive but was also married with kids. Later, the police officer ordered a probe into the incident and found the girl from Hathras.
After the dead woman has been found alive, Vishnu’s mother has sought strict action against the accused. She has approached the court seeking justice for her son who wasted seven years of his life in a false case. Police have produced the ‘dead’ woman in Aligarh court seeking her DNA test to ascertain her identity.
