NCRB Suicide data (2021): 1.18 lakh Men as against 45K women. Top reason reported by NCRB was “family problems”. Yet the Indian society, government and others in power fail to even acknowledge the domestic traumas faced by men.
In an extremely tragic case reported from Maharashtra, a veterinary doctor allegedly murdered his wife, threw his son and daughter in a well located in a sugarcane farm and then died by suicide at his residence at Varvand village in Daund taluka of Pune district on Tuesday.
Case:
Atul Shivaji Divekar (42), his wife Pallavi (35), nine-year-old son Adivat and six-year-old daughter Vedanti lived at Chaitali Park Society in Varvand.
As per ANI report, an investigating officer said that one of the neighbour’s spotted Atul’s body hanging at his residence on Tuesday afternoon, who then informed police. A team from Yavat police station reached the spot.
Later, the police said Divekar’s wife Pallavi too was found dead in the house. Thus, they suspect she was strangled by her husband.
Speaking with ANI, a police officer said:
A suicide note was recovered from the spot, which stated that Divekar killed his wife and children and then ended his life.
Our team rushed to the well in a nearby sugarcane farm where the note said that Divekar had thrown his children. After a search, bodies of the two children were recovered from the well in the evening.
