RJD president Lalu Prasad’s elder son Tej Pratap Yadav, has been amidst bitter marital dispute since sometime now. Breaking his silence on Tuesday, Tej Pratap released a video statement threatening to open up about ‘the abuse faced by him during marriage’.
Yadav has targeted media, particularly one news portal which allegedly came up with a misleading story while his divorce matter is ongoing at court. In the 7-minute long video, Tej Pratap Yadav says,
I can come out with countless video clips and other evidence to prove the physical and verbal abuse suffered by me, my parents and my siblings. I have been maintaining my silence since last 4-years, ever since I filed the petition seeking divorce.
Yadav called it a political conspiracy to malign him, his father and entire family.
Adding further, Tej Pratap said,
I too have evidences which I have not shared because these involve a young woman (ladki) which makes the matter serious.
However, he warned media and others to share ugly details which he has allegedly faced, if the smear campaign against him did not end.
Tej Pratap has also alleged demand of crores from his estranged wife and family. He quoted,
My in-laws are victimising me and demanding crores of rupees from me as compensation. They have also abused my mother and father. My father is having several diseases and currently recuperating in hospital. I have been facing the plight for the last 4 years due to this divorce case.
Yadav has also urged media outlets to abide by a family court order restraining journalists from reporting the divorce case proceedings.
Background:
Tej Pratap Yadav got married to Aishwarya Rai – daughter of former RJD MLA – in May 2018.
Aishwarya also comes from a political family. Her grandfather Daroga Rai was a former chief minister of Bihar while her father Chandrika Rai was a seven time MLA representing Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Their wedding was attended by several politicians including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, then governor Satya Pal Malik and Union minister (late) Ram Vilas Paswan. RJD chief Lalu Yadav was out on parole to attend the wedding of his son.
However, within 6-months of the marriage, Tej Pratap Yadav filed for divorce in November 2018 on the grounds of cruelty.
Speaking with media in 2019, Aishwarya said,
For the past three months, I have been subjected to ill-treatment here. I was not given food, so every day my meals used to come from my residence…I was being denied access even to the kitchen. A personal staff of my mother-in-law rudely told me that it has been locked and refused to hand over the keys to me.
When I began shooting the entire episode on my mobile phone, the staff tried to snatch it. I ran and he chased me until I came outside the inner quarters.
Later, she had filed a complaint with Mahila Helpline who had rushed to her rescue.
