Rape laws were amended in 2012 to grant better protection and justice to women who are victims of rape. But increasingly, rape laws are being misused across the country.
A group of activists including Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, Independent Journalist & Documentary Filmmaker, K D Jha, Founder NCM India & Rajat Jain, all who fight against false accusations on men submitted complaint to Commissioner of Police Gurgaon against a 20-year-old girl – who has filed six rape cases in six different police stations in Gurugram against six different men. Two cases amongst these have been proven false by police but the girl has continued to file rape cases on different men.
Sharing details about the case, Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj said,
I was approached by a 24-year-old boy who met this girl on a dating app. They met the next day and there was consensual relationship between them. The girl then started pressurising him for marriage. He told her he cannot just get married like that but she threatened him that if he doesn’t marry her, she would file a rape case on him and called up his family too. She said she will implicate his friends also in gangrape case.
Threatened by the girl, he married her in Arya Samaj Mandir but the girl after marrying him also kept threatening of rape charges and went to police station. She has blackmailed many men in similar manner and filed six rape cases in six different police stations in Gurugram. We have given written complaint at CP office and requested them to look into the matter. I urge people who have been victims of threats and blackmail like this to approach Commissioner of Police office and submit evidences and details so that a strong case can be filed against her.
Background:
The girl against whom complaint has been filed has registered rape cases with similar allegations of ‘rape on false promise of marriage’ at different police stations in Gurugram including Rajendra Park, Sadar Thana, Sector 15, Sector 10, City Thana, New Colony Police Stations within last one year in 2020-2021. In two of these cases police found the allegations false, closed the case and registered 182 against the girl.
Stressing on the need to expose such cases, K D Jha, Founder, NCM India said,
Men should approach men’s rights NGOs if they are blackmailed like this, record the evidence and file police complaint. Action can be taken only if complaints are filed. People should not give in to such threats. Many lives can be saved if people bravely fight false allegations levelled by women. Growing abuse of rape laws is disturbing.
