Fake cases by daughter-in-laws are ruining Men and their families, often where several members are taking the extreme step of ending life and thereby, ending the trauma for good. Yet another incident of an elderly father-in-law dying by suicide has been reported from Ludhiana in Punjab due to alleged harassment and threat of false cases by son’s wife.
Case:
The deceased’s wife said that her son got married around one-and-a-half years ago and has a six-month-old daughter. Her 60-year-old husband allegedly set himself ablaze after he was threatened by their daughter-in-law’s family. The man took the drastic step at his house in Guru Gobind Singh Nagar at Noorwala Road on Saturday, reported Hindustan Times. The victim passed away on Monday.
Reportedly, the man’s daughter-in-law and her parents had been harassing the elderly man and had threatened to implicate him in a dowry harassment case.
Father-in-Law Allegedly Humiliated & Threatened With False Cases
The victim’s wife said that her husband ended his life as he was humiliated and thrashed by their son’s in-laws on Saturday. She added that the accused also threatened to lodge a false dowry harassment case against them.
The victim was reportedly very upset over the incident, returned to his house and poured kerosene on himself. The man then set himself ablaze. He was rushed to a hospital but he breathed his last during treatment after two days.
‘Daughter-in-Law Harassed Me Soon After Marriage’
The woman quoted,
Three months ago, my husband and I suffered injuries in a mishap, after which our daughter-in-law and her parents started abusing us. Our daughter-in-law wanted to move in a separate accommodation, but when my husband refused, she assaulted him. She had started harassing me soon after her marriage.
Station house officer (SHO) Basti Jodhewal, Mohammad Jamil, said that the accused have been booked under:
- Section 306 (Abetment to Suicide)
- Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention)
…of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)
Efforts are being made to arrest the accused as per police.
MDO Take:
Gender Biased Laws in India have become a curse for married men and their families. While entire politics, media and system revolve around protection of daughter-in-laws, they have effectively empowered them to misuse women centric laws by giving constant threats to in-laws to either settle score or fix them the way they want.
Sadly, many men and their parents have ended their lives, since most of them are middle class families who have never heard or seen the sight of police in their homes. Families of brides/daughter-in-laws have started assuming supreme power using laws as tools of empowerment, even to the effect of physically manhandling families of husbands if their demands are not met. There is zero fear of law today in the minds of women and their families, while men (husbands) are made to live in constant fear, blackmail and intimidation.
