Recently, a case was reported from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh where, a wife has asked her ailing husband suffering from cancer, to pay her maintenance, even while she is working herself.
This incident has been narrated by Bhopal Family Court Counsellor Sarita Rajani where she exclaims her shock towards such behaviour by wife.
Here’s What Happened
A woman has filed for maintenance at a family court in Bhopal. The couple has been married since 8-years, however, are living separately since past 4-years after husband’s health started deteriorating due to spine cancer. They have a 7-year-old son who is living with the mother.
The woman is occupying her husband’s home, while the man has shifted back to his father’s residence. According to the wife – who is working herself – it is the duty of her husband to pay maintenance to her and her son. She has even gone to the extend of telling the man to sell his kidney and be of use to someone else as he is dying anyways. However, he must pay her Rs 2 lakh as FD in the name of son.
The husband told court that he was undergoing chemotherapy for the past several years and was unable to work. He is willing to transfer the apartment on the name of his minor son, but this is not agreeable to wife and she insists on maintenance.
What Influence Will Such Mother Have On Child?
Counsellor Rajani was shocked to hear such words from the wife, especially the way she was speaking in front of her own son. Rajani questioned how will this woman expect her son to grow up and take care of her in the future!
How Will You Live When He Dies?
When the counsellor asked wife how will she survive after the husband is gone, to this the woman added that she will at least be contended that he is dead. However, till the time he is alive, she will ensure that he pays her.
Counsellor ends the interview to ANI by saying,
When we get to see this kind of behaviour, it makes us think whether society is really changing so fast. How much should we trust relationships going forward?
