Remember the infamous #ZomatoDeliveryBoy case in March this year from Bengaluru? A social media influencer (make up artist) had uploaded her video accusing the Zomato employee of manhandling her, when he visited her residence to deliver food.
As expected, netizens instantly demanded justice for Hitesha Chandranee (customer) without hearing other side of the story from Kamaraj (Zomato Delivery Man). It is only later when Kamaraj narrated how he was the one insulted and assaulted for delivering the food late, social media called for truth to prevail. The matter is now in deep freezer, as the woman stopped attending summons from police, when Kamaraj filed counter case on her.
Now, yet again, a similar incident has been reported from Kolkata, West Bengal, where another Zomato Delivery Man who incidentally reported a little late with food, was subjected to the ire of a female customer.
The irate female customer allegedly hurled abuses at him and also broke his mobile phone. The incident took place at Panshila Anandapalli at Sodpur in North 24, Paraganas.
Here’s What Happened
Ujjwal Das, Zomato Delivery Man, went to deliver food to one customer named Moumita Chakraborty. However, he reached a bit late, since he was riding a bicycle.
Das alleged that the female customer started abusing him over the phone for running behind schedule. When he reached the location, the woman allegedly asked him to go to another location, 500 meters away from Pansila Anandapalli.
Initially, Das hesitated to change location, but eventually he did go to hand over the food delivery. According to the Zomato Delivery man, the woman spoke to him rudely, slapped him, snatched his phone, threw it on the ground and damaged it. She also allegedly damaged his cycle and threatened him.
Helpless Das then informed his colleagues about this incident, and subsequently all got together and reported the matter to Ghola Police station. While speaking to the media, Das said,
I had purchased the phone on monthly installments. The female customer must face action for breaking my mobile.
As per a Zee News report, the account from which the food was ordered, was also fake. Police has launched an investigation into the matter. The accused woman Moumita Chakraborty refused to give her side of the story on camera.
MDO Take:
- Zomato Founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, is always prompt in announcing schemes for his female employees
- However, he needs to be equally vocal in support of his male employees, especially the Men who travel in extreme weather conditions on ground to deliver on time
- Failure of Goyal’s emphatic support to all his male team members only sends out one message – which is – Work Culture Pro Women Anti Men
- Equality is not only about pampering female employees, but treating every single employee with respect and assistance when in need
