The police is meant to protect the law and citizens. While there are several stories of policemen going beyond their call of duty to help common people, the incident below, shows the other side of power and brutality on public.
Last week, a video went viral on social media, where we can see some cops thrashing a man right in front of his crying child. The man here is not a terrorist, but just an estranged husband who has been embroiled in a matrimonial battle with his wife since sometime.
Case:
Chiranjilal (35) is a chartered accountant by profession and works for a private company in Jaipur, Rajasthan. According to Dainik Bhaskar report, he had been in dispute with his wife Dimple since a year.
In the video, one can see how three policemen have pinned down the husband, and despite his minor son kneeling down and pleading to the cops, the beating continues. Even when Chiranjilal touches the feet of one of the policemen begging for mercy, the thrashing does not stop. After this, the cops even dragged four members of the husband’s family to the police station.

What Happened That Day?
When the matter came to light, it was learnt that Dimple had arrived at her husband and in-laws’ house on April 16 along with some police personnel. Since the family members of her husband were not present at home that day, she forcefully tried to enter the premises.
This is when the neighbours alerted Chiranjilal and when he came to question his wife’s illegal act along with the help of police, the situtation turned violent as the officers unleashed the assault.
Police Statement
Following an outrage on social media, last week, the Jaipur police issued a statement saying an enquiry had been ordered in the incident, however there has been no update in the matter since then.
Meanwhile, the victim husband sustained injuries and has been undergoing treatment.

- This kind of brazen misuse of power is often rampant in Tier II, III and rural areas in India
- Women in non-urban locations are always automatically presumed to be the victims of matrimonial battles
- In many cases, families of women who want to settle score with the husband and in-laws, bribe the authorities and get false cases registered against the other side
- As seen in this case, physical power was also put into force, to drag the husband as a criminal, even before any court verdict
- It is only due to social media today, that all such cases are coming to light, else even now, hardly any mainstream english platform has bothered to cover this piece of news. One can imagine the outrage and trending hashtags, if genders were reversed
- We keep stating this in several of our articles and videos, that women indeed suffer, but women are not the only ones suffering
- Its time society wakes up to ground realities of the other side, before male members of their own families meet such ill fate
