Such incidents are a blot on every human being.
A baby girl lying in a drain, covered in dirt and mud was miraculously rescued by Uttar Pradesh’s Budaun police last week. The first series of photos were tweeted from their official handle on August 24.

The incident took place on Saturday when a passerby spotted a newborn girl dumped in a drain and immediately called and alerted the police. A quick response team of the police came to the spot and rescued the baby. The photos shared by the Budaun Police showed the infant smeared in mud and covered with twigs, which was clearly disturbing. The baby was then rescued by the police and taken to a hospital.
The little angel was truly lucky this time, since member of the quick response team, Constable Rishi Pal took the baby to the district hospital where doctors immediately put her under emergency care. Later UP Police tweeted another picture where Pal was seen near the baby recovering inside the intensive care unit. This time she had been cleaned of all the dirt, and was seen comfortably sleeping on a soft sheet surrounded by an array of medical equipment.

The police said they have filed a case against unknown people for abandoning the baby, who could have died if they had not rescued her on time.
The centre runs a gender awareness programme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ under which girl children are given financial help for education and other facilities in the district level. We are in 2019, and one cannot deny the grave reality of abandoning girl child, that still prevails in many parts of India. However, such incidents paint all men with a patriarchal brush, resulting into strictest one-sided women centric laws.
On a different note, we congratulate and thank Uttar Pradesh Police for their timely response to save a precious life, who perhaps doesn’t even know what future lies ahead of her.
