Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act is gender neutral and anyone exploiting a minor will face consequences of the law.
In one such case reported from Tamil Nadu, an adult college student was arrested for marrying her minor male classmate.
Case:
The matter pertains to Salem district of Tamil Nadu where the police has arrested a 20-year-old college going woman. The accused is also pregnant.
The boy in question is a minor, who went missing in April, however, was now found to be living with this senior student. After his parents filed a petition in court to bring their son back, police traced him living with this woman.
The adult woman has been charged under the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and will be sent for medical examination, said the police.
Speaking with NDTV, Commissioner of Police, Salem City, Najmul Hoda, said,
A court has sent her to the judicial custody.
