Until now, men had been struggling with gender biased laws after marriage, however, relationships before the legal bond too, are making it to the courts. One such unusual verdict comes from Punjab, where the matter reached in front of judiciary after a young couple lived together for only two days.
A joint bench of the Punjab-Haryana High Court was hearing an appeal petition by a 20-year-old boy who wanted the judges to hand over custody of his girlfriend to him, instead of her parents. The bench remarked,
A live-in relationship is not only defined when a couple stays together for long, however, the same is also considered as a live-in relationship when the boy and girl have lived together even for two days.

Earlier, the male lover had filed a petition in front of a single bench, wherein he suggested how he was in a live-in relationship with his girlfriend, however, the parents of the girl had taken her away forcefully. The judge then said that there was no evidence to prove that the couple were living together and accused the boy of merely tarnishing the character of the girl. The bench had also imposed a penalty of Rs 1 Lakh on the boy.
Subsequently, an appeal was filed in front of the Division Bench against this decision of the single bench. In view of the circumstances of the case, the High Court waived the fine of Rs 1 lakh levied by the single bench.
