Men’s Rights Activists Are CHOMUS: DeshBhakt Akash Banerjee | Save Indian Family Foundation Responds

Delhi High Court is currently hearing a batch of petitions in the Marital Rape PIL. Amidst the ongoing proceedings at court, there seems to be a trend where certain section of mainstream and digital media, both in India as well as foreign publications are trying their best to spread false narratives against Men’s Rights Activists who are opposing this one sided law, which will arm disgruntled women to exploit husbands and satisfy their (wives’) egos.

Several digital media YouTubers are milking this debate by putting out selective narratives and aiming to fuel emotions amongst common public. One of them recently has been Akash Banerjee, who seems to be Jack of All Trades on any given topic.

Sources of his recent video on Marital Rape, are selective media cut outs, trying to project how India has very strict laws against Fake Cases and that any Man who is against Marital Rape Law is a “Chomu” (mentally & intellectually challenged).

Banerjee tries to paint Modi Government at the Centre and current Delhi Government as someone hungry for votes who are against this law, but deliberately avoids informing his viewers how UPA-II under Dr Manmohan Singh Government had also rejected criminalising marital rape, particularly because they were warned of a tsunami of false cases by motivated women. 

Banerjee, who calls himself DESH BHAKT also misinforms how present prevailing laws under Section 498-A only account for cruelty and not rape. He does not speak about Domestic Violence Act, 2005 which covers sexual violence against wives and Section 377 IPC which covers unnatural sex with wife by husband. 

Desh Bhakt constantly repeats how all countries globally have adopted this law, and India remains in the list with Afghanistan and North Korea. Banerjee does not inform his viewers how all progressive countries of the west have GENDER NEUTRAL matrimonial laws, whereas Men in India are still fighting for basic Gender Neutral Domestic Violence Act. 

We are not sure what is the agenda behind these self proclaimed experts, masking as YouTubers or whether they have been given drafted scripts to misguide people. 

Banerjee also mocks the trend of #MarriageStrike on social media, to which Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) responds sharply as below: 

Though many divorced men are boycotting marriage for more than a decade now, it is the #MaritalRape debate that led to trending of the #MarriageStrike hashtag on twitter.

Once #MarriageStrike started trending, it sent shock waves in the feminist circles. The triggered feminists came out in large numbers to oppose it and many even started mocking it. Feminists soon realised that after the threat of #MarriageStrike, Delhi High Court may not rule in their favour and leave the matter to the Parliament to act.

That is why, the fake news media went on an overdrive trying to control the narrative and it started calling Men’s Human Rights Activists as,

Potential rapists, who do not want to marry, unless they are given a right to rape their wives.

All the fact checkers run by main stream media went silent. We still ask them,

Are the men, who are protesting against removal of exception in rape law, potential rapists? What evidences has the media got against them?

The risks of criminalising entire masculinity itself by importing American consent standards like, “Yes means yes” are real.

A man will be charged with rape, if he touches his wife sexually, when she is asleep as a sleeping person is in no position to give her consent. Men are traditionally expected to initiate sexual activity. It basically makes all men potential rapists of their wives.

That is why, many men’s rights activists started arguing that, for a family unit to exist, a wife (or a husband) are not needed. They can easily live their lives with their parents, their siblings and other communities of Men.

As #MarriageStrike and our call to cancel wife from family bolstered the arguments given by Govt that the entire institution of marriage is at the risk of being collapsed, feminists in panick even went on to justify culture of false cases.

With this background, the statements of journalist turned YouTuber Akash Banerjee are not at all surprising.

He is parroting the same false narratives spread by media. Just like media, he tries to downplay the concerns of misuse of marital rape law, if the exception is removed from Indian Penal Code.

Keeping thousands of intellectually and mathematically challenged feminists in his backyard, Akash Banerjee calls Men’s Human Rights Activists, “Chomu” or intellectually challenged.

He is from St Stephen’s College and that may be the reason, he reeks of such elitism. He is in complete denial of the trauma and depression that men go through, when they and their parents live constantly under the fear of imprisonment and torture facing multiple fake cases due to marital problems. He is in denial of a genocide like situation due to our irresponsible judiciary.

Akash Banerjee then tried the argument that,

All laws are misused. It is no big deal.

It is like saying,

All civilizations have perpetrated genocides. It is no big deal.

He has not said anything criticizing Judiciary’s inability to stop false cases and how false cases violate Article 21 of constitution. So, one has to ask,

Who is the real chomu here!

The cancer of false criminal cases has spread even more after new anti-rape laws were passed 2013 and all the checks and balances in laws were removed. Thousand of men every year are getting imprisoned in false rape cases, many are killing themselves and it is like an institutionalised genocide now. Anil Murty, Co-founder of SIFF, 

The false cases have killed more people than many genocides and pogroms recorded in human history.

The number of dead men, who killed themselves due to false cases in last 20 years, are almost comparable to Armenian genocide. In fact, every year more men get killed due to misuse of laws than the entire Bosnian genocide. People like Akash Banerjee are downplaying or even justifying such treatment towards men, which can even put many dictators, fascists or ISIS to shame.

#MarriageStrike is one of the ways to stay away from the institution of marriage, which the fascist elitist have turned into a concentration camp for men. These elitists have never ever opposed misuse of laws.

Every year, Millions of husbands are either killed or driven into deep depression after being treated like slaves. Judiciary drags men around multiple courts for a minimum 5 to 7 years with a rope tied around their neck.

The other option for many men is to just migrate out of the country and create a big force in a foreign country to expose the crimes against humanity that are committed in India.

• It is one thing to blindly outrage on social media, while ground realities are far from Bollywood movies like Thappad, where the wives are painted with no shades of grey
