For decades, media only published stories on how NRI men came to India, married Indian women and then dumped them. While one cannot overlook this reality, we have always ignored this problem when genders are reversed.
There are endless laws to protect women in such circumstances, however, men are often left only giving media interviews with almost zero legal recourse.
In a recent story reported from Gujarat, a man was abruptly dumped by his green card holder wife over a phone call.

Case:
Hitendra Desai, 32, from Ahmedabad, got married to Yesha Patel in March 2017. The duo knew each other since 2013 while they were studying together.
Since both of them belonged to different communities, the marriage was performed in Amreli’s Kukavav Gram Panchayat area and the same was kept hidden from their respective parents.

The couple had decided to fly to USA separately and then start a new married life together. However, things took an ugly turn when the wife decided to ditch the husband.
Patel, a Green Card holder, left for the US first after allegedly promising to facilitate Desai’s travel soon after reaching.

The husband said he gave her $5,000 (Rs 4.15 lakh approx) for her travel. The wife reached US and stayed in touch with him for about a fortnight and then suddenly snapped all ties with Hitendra.
Yesha told Hitendra that she had informed her parents and they had asked her to file for divorce. However, the husband refused to do so and later in February 2020, when Yesha returned to India, he learnt that she had married again without securing divorce from him.

Husband Files Police Complaint
After all his efforts to contact Yesha failed, Hitendra filed a police complaint against his wife on Tuesday.
The complaint has been registered under:
- Section 406 (criminal breach of trust)
- Section 420 (cheating)
- Section 494 (marrying again during the lifetime of a husband or wife)
- Section 495 (same offence with concealment of the former marriage from the person with whom subsequent marriage is contracted)

Voice For Men India Note: While there have been cases where Interpol has been alerted to drag a married man back to India – who has deserted his wife – there is hardly any action against a married woman who dumps her husband after reaching a foreign land. Unless the wife herself returns to the country, it is almost impossible for husbands in India to get justice.
