Empowering women with laws was always a welcome move, especially to safeguard them from heinous crimes in society. Post the unfortunate Nirbhaya gang rape incident in 2012, sexual violence laws were strengthened to an extent, where women today are permitted to file zero FIR, most of the times even without a medical.
Over the years as times have progressed, some women and even young girls have turned these laws in their favour for selfish motives. In a recent case reported from Delhi, a minor girl took shelter under the disguise of false molestation, only to escape scolding from her parents.

A 14-year-old girl ‘harmed’ herself with a blade and made up a false story alleging that she was injured during a scuffle where she was molested. As per a PTI report, the police on Monday said that the minor girl cooked up a false story ‘to escape her parents’ scolding for not faring well in exams’.
The incident was reported on March 15 at Bhajanpura police station in northeast Delhi, where the girl had claimed that after school, three boys allegedly got into a scuffle and also took her a few metres away and harmed her causing injuries to her hands.
Based on her complaint, a case was registered.
However, during interrogation, the girl confessed to have made up the story. Subsequently, the police withdrew the case that it had registered under relevant sections of POCSO Act and Indian Penal Code sections of molestation and kidnapping.

Speaking with PTI, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said,
When we scanned CCTV footage, we spotted the child roaming alone. Then we counselled the child and our lady staff spoke to her and finally, the girl revealed that on March 15, it was her social studies examination.
Adding further, DCP said,
The exam did not go well and she was afraid that her parents would scold her. So, she went to a general store near the school and purchased some eatables and a blade. While she was sitting alone, she harmed herself with the blade.
