If you are not physically abled, either you can cry victimhood forever, or use this weakness to encourage more determination and zeal to overcome this challenge. 20-year-old Chandeep Singh Sudan from Jammu and Kashmir never saw himself disabled even after losing both of his arms at a tender age of just 11!

His Story

  • As a simple and very much normal boy, Chandeep was a football player, athlete and skater at school, zonal and national levels
  • However, in 2011, an unfortunate incident changed everything for the young budding boy
  • The athlete suffered a life threatening electric shock of 11,000 volts which caused him fourth degree burns and left his stomach in a horrendous state
  • The infection worsened his condition and eventually, both of his arms were amputated during the surgery to save his life
  • A year later, Chandeep was back on skates and he trained everyday for 90 minutes with his able counterparts
  • The never die attitude only had rewards in store for the boy and in 2012, he participated in a national roller-skating event and won a bronze medal for the same
  • Golden Book of World Records and Assist World Records also recognized him as the fastest skater in 100 meter category
  • Today, he is as normal as anyone of us — works on his laptop, uses his mobile phone and does everything that you and we can do
  • Last year, Chandeep won two gold medals for India in the Kimunyong Cup Taekwondo Championship in South Korea making his family and entire country proud
  • Before bagging gold in South Korea, he has won gold medals in Asian Taekwondo Championship at Vietnam and International Taekwondo Championship at Nepal

Chandeep Singh Sudan with family

His father recalled,

I remember once after his second amputation, my son asked me to tell the doctors to loosen the bandages on his fingers. Even then, he could feel his fingers and didn’t know that his arms had been amputated.

Chandeep’s mother, Jagpreet Kaur, too has been his solid rock. She says,

We encouraged him and he kept moving on, his courage acted like a balm on our wounds, I feel proud as a mother.

The proud and motivating Chandeep is happy and immensely thanks his friends and family for their complete support. He thanks the Almighty by saying,

This is purely God’s help that he is guiding me to move on in life, my next goal is world championships, I want to be a world champion.

Chandeep Singh Sudan With Milkha Singh

After the accident, he found a mentor in sports legend Milkha Singh who guided him all through. Singh attributes Chandeep’s achievements to his hard work, will power and dedication. He says,

For a person with these qualities, sky is the limit. I want to say that Chandeep is making our country proud, others should also emulate and perform similar feats. When Chandeep came to my home, I saw that he is working his laptop and mobile with feet, he doesn’t have hands, I was really moved.

Chandeep may look different than all of us, but he zooms on with immense courage. While we all have used our fingers to scroll reading this article, he is surely an inspiration to everyone who feel, how life is unfair to them due to various external factors beyond their control.

Blogging about Equal Rights for Men or writing about Gender Biased Laws is often looked upon as controversial, as many 'perceive' it Anti-Women. Due to this grey area - where we demand Equality in the true sense for all genders - most brands distance themselves from advertising on a portal like ours.
