A 38-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh has been booked under Section 182 of the IPC for lodging a false gang rape complaint against multiple men, including a BJP leader.
Case:
The woman, a resident of Bareilly city, had lodged an FIR in November 2022 against three unidentified persons under:
- Section 376D (gang-rape)
- Section 328 (poisoning)
…of the IPC at Kotwali police station.
One of the accused named was Bareilly Mayor and Invertis University Chancellor Dr. Umesh Gautam.
After a medical examination, she was produced before a magistrate on December 16, 2022, to record her statement under section 164 CrPC where she said that she was raped by the city mayor and his driver. In January, she met SSP Bareilly Akhilesh Bhadauria and demanded that the mayor and the other accused are arrested.
Woman Changes Statement
Now, the woman has changed her statement and confessed that she had lodged a false rape complaint to frame the BJP leader. She has submitted a confession letter to the investigating officer at Kotwali police station in Bareilly city, stating that she filed the complaint under the influence of someone.

Statement by Police
Speaking with TOI, SP city Rahul Bhati said,
On January 28, she again met the SSP and submitted an application that she was provoked by someone to name the mayor and that he is innocent. The case has been expunged as she gave false information in the FIR.
Proceedings under IPC section 182 have been initiated against her to find out the reason for filing a wrong complaint. Her confession letter has been submitted in the court as well.
