A horrific video from Rajasthan went viral yesterday, where a woman is seen beating her husband on numerous occasions with a cricket bat. This video has sparked several questions on the absence of Domestic Violence Laws for Men and the response of police which is completely hypocritical. Watch Video at the end of this article.
Background:
Ajit Yadav (32) from Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, had a love marriage around 7-years-ago with Suman, who hails from Sonipat in Haryana. The couple has a 6-year-old son.
Ajit works as a principal with a government school in Haryana. Yadav alleged that his wife has been beating him for more than a year, but to save their marriage and for the sake of their son, he kept calm and ignored it. However, as the same was unbearable, he decided to install CCTV Cameras inside his home to gather evidence of physical assaults by his wife.
Not only this, the wife has been allegedly also blackmailing husband by threatening to implicate him in the trial.
Never Raised Hand On Her
Ajit Yadav said that he was a teacher and if teachers raise their hands on women or take law in their hands, it is against Indian culture and their status. He was also worried, that if this matter reached his students, how would they get affected? In order to maintain his dignity, Ajit had been suffering in silence.
Husband’s Mental Condition
Ajit’s present condition has made him mentally ill and he forgets everything in a few moments. Often, he forgets names of colleagues with whom he works. He did not go back to his home, for nearly a month, due to the fear of being beaten up by his wife.
Husband Approached Court
Yadav has now approached the court for his security. Following his request, a court in Bhiwadi has ordered the police to look into his allegations and provide him adequate security.
In his complaint, Yadav expressed,
I got married to Suman, a native of Sonipat in Haryana and it was a love marriage. For the past one year, she has been harassing me and beating me. She tears my clothes and teases me every time.
Adding further, he said,
My wife tears off my clothes, thrashes me for no reason. Since I am a principal in a school, I always want to sit for an amicable solution to my wife’s problems. Hence, I never told anyone that she thrashes me with a bat. Sometime ago, I had installed CCTV in my living room and other rooms. I have approached the court for intervention into the matter.
Statement by Alwar Police:
Vipin Sharma, additional SP, Bhiwadi told TOI,
We have been asked by the court to look into the allegations made by the husband. We are yet to record the wife’s statement. If needed, security would be given to him as he is not living with his wife at present.
The Police added that they are yet to conclude anything as they will have to consider the point of view and statement of the woman. Sharma added,
Only after talking to the woman we will be able to elaborate on the issue.
Speaking with Deepika Bhardwaj, independent journalist, Advocate Govind Soni for Ajit Yadav said,
Husband is living outside his own home since a month. High Court has given him protection.
He had earlier complained to the police, about this behaviour of wife, but they did not take any action. No FIR has been filed on the wife as of now. We don’t have faith in police and now matter has to be decided by the court directly.
Wife’s brother who lives in the USA has been guiding and encouraging the woman. She does not work, she is a homemaker and has maids at home for all the house work.
Yadav’s mother is no more, and when his father had visited their home, his wife did not allow him into the home too.
We all must come together and file PIL that husbands should also get justice just like wives.
