When everything and every law is only about Bahu (daughter-in-law), this is what several Men in India are facing today. Domestic Violence on Men is an extremely serious matter, however, as a country, we do not even recognise the same as yet.
The below case of a man from Karnataka is not just about a violent attack, but the lack of fear wives and their families demonstrate today while taking laws into their hands.
A 30-year-old man from Bengaluru was beaten up cruelly by his in-laws because he could not refill an LPG gas Cylinder as demanded by their daughter. Gopalkrishna S, a resident of Medahalli in KR Puram, got married to Gayatri a year and eight months ago through an arranged alliance.
The current incident of attack took place on January 9, when the family was running out of cooking gas and Gayatri asked her husband to refill it. As reported by Bangalore Mirror, husband’s mother Viji quoted:
It was a Saturday and my son was feeling unwell. He said he would do it on Monday and added that he would order food from restaurant till then.
While Gayatri, on the other hand, started abusing her husband and questioned his role as the man of the house. She later called her father, Ravi Kumar, and brother, Praveen, to complain about the same, said Viji.

The in-laws’ dialed their son-in-law and abused him with strong words over the issue of gas cylinder. When Gopalkrishna retaliated, the in-laws came over to their daughter’s place with four goons. After being summoned from the hotel where he was working, the husband was beaten up for arguing with his in-laws. The man was thrashed for not doing his duty as a ‘home provider’. According to an eye witness, they were also going to stab the man, however, left him after a warning.
Husband’s Mother’s Statement
Viji said she was informed by a neighbour who noticed the incident and called her. Thereafter, they went to the spot to find their son lying unconscious in a pool of blood and immediately rushed him to a private hospital at first. However, since his head injuries were quite serious, they had to take him to NIMHANS for treatment.
The cops were called in by the hospital authorities and they recorded the statements of the victim.

The accused have been charged under charges of assault using dangerous weapons, unlawful assembly, wrongful confinement, and criminal intimidation among other charges. Viji said,
It was a case of attempt to murder, but we don’t know why the police just took an assault case.
The couple got married in 2019 and started living with Gopalkrishna’s parents in JC Nagar. However, when the husband got busy with his work at a hotel in Indiranagar, Gayatri was not happy living with her in-laws. She gradually started pestering her husband to move of the home and start living as a nuclear family.
The husband tried to persuade his wife to stay there itself, however, due to her stubbornness, Gopalkrishna had to avail a loan of Rs 4 lakh and later the couple shifted to a rented house at Medahallu in KR Puram, East Bengaluru few months ago.
