Dowry is a curse. Giving and taking dowry is a crime. When a man does it, he is arrested at once. However, reverse the genders and we often see social media mocking and giggling over such incidents.
In a recent case, a tribal woman in Telangana cancelled her wedding last minute, because the groom and his family could not arrange for more dowry (reverse dowry).

Here’s What Happened!
A wedding was scheduled on Thursday at Ghatkesar – the city outskirts of Hyderabad. The bride, who was to travel from her native Aswaraopet village in Bhadradri Kothagudem, refused to take the nuptial vows last minute, since she demanded more than Rs 2 lakh paid by the groom’s family in keeping with the tribe’s custom of ‘reverse dowry’ paid to prospective brides.
As per a TOI report, the decked-up wedding hall was abuzz and invitees waiting for the ‘muhurat‘ were jolted by the bride’s decision. However, when the bride did not turn up at the wedding venue, the groom’s family rushed to the hotel, where her family had put up, and sought an explanation.

To their shock, they were informed that the bride had sought more dowry. The groom left the wedding ‘mandap‘ and his family rushed to the police. The bride’s family was summoned and the matter was discussed.

Speaking with TOI, a police officer said,
The two families sorted it out among themselves and the wedding was called off. No complaint was lodged and no one was booked. It turned out the bride was not interested in the marriage, so she tossed up a demand for more dowry and didn’t turn up at the ‘mandap’.

Adding further, the officer said,
The bride’s family did receive Rs 2 lakh in dowry from the groom, but as the bride was firm in her decision, the money was returned and both families went their ways.
