Local police has arrested a woman from Gondal in Rajkot district of Gujarat as she sold her three-year-old son for getting remarried. It is only after about a year that the child was handed over to the biological father by the cops.
The woman who is now in police custody sold her child for Rupees Forty Thousand as she wanted to get rid of him.
Case:
Ajay Dharjia (father) of Gondal got married to Jayashree alias Pooja three years ago. At the time of marriage, Ajay had paid Rs 2.40 lakh to the woman’s mother Ramaben Vyas and one Rajendra Pikerao, an acquaintance of Pooja.
The couple were blessed with a son after their union, however, the woman left her husband’s home suddenly one day with the child, when he was just 2-years-old. The man then lodged a missing complaint of his wife and son.
A year later, when there was no update about his family, the man appealed at the Gujarat High Court asking for instructions and directing the police to look for his family. Post court order, local police started searching for the woman and the child.
Police Investigation
During the investigation, the cops found out that the woman was going to get remarried soon to another man from Rajkot. As soon as this information was received, the police arrested her.
The police also learnt that the woman had sold her son to a couple in Mumbai since ‘he was an obstacle’ in her second marriage. The mother also confessed that she sold her baby for Rs 40,000 to a couple from Mumbai who did not have any child.

The man who was about to get married to Pooja was also unaware of the woman already being married before and having a child. Shockingly, Pooja’s second marriage was also an arranged one like her first marriage to Ajay, and once again the bride’s family had demanded money from the groom.
An official informed media that the woman, along with her mother and brother, had been taken into custody for interrogation. Based on the accused mother’s information, the cops then started search for the infant son.
The Mumbai couple by now had moved to Tamil Nadu with the child, while Gujarat police reached Mumbai to search for this family. On learning that the trio had moved to Coimbatore, Rajkot police landed up in the south and got hold of the child.
The cops have also started an investigation as to how the couple bought the baby without any legal documentation.
