Crime Has No Gender. Once again an extremely shocking incident has been reported, where a mother has been arrested for allegedly murdering her four-year-old son in North Goa.
The mother is a highly educated woman and a Bengaluru based start up founder. This story has truly shocked many.
Case:
Suchana Seth (39) was caught trying to flee in a cab from a North Goa Hotel with her four-year-old son’s body stuffed in a bag. According to police, an “estranged relationship with her husband” could be a possible motive behind this murder. According to Aaj Tak, the woman wanted to keep the child away from her estranged husband and thus she ended up murdering her son.
On Monday, the accused woman checked out of the service apartment in Candolim. However, while cleaning the apartment, a housekeeping staff had found bloodstains there, reported News18. The Goa police was called and informed about the matter at once.
Accused Woman Returned To Karnataka
After receiving an alert from Goa police, the local police in Karnataka nabbed Suchana who had returned to her home state by then.
Seth was detained at Aimangala police station in the Chitradurga district The Calangute police team soon reached the police station in Karnataka to take her back to Goa on a transit remand.

Speaking with TOI, Paresh Naik, Calangute police station’s inspector said
The 39-year-old founder and CEO had given a Bengaluru address when she checked into room 404 at Hotel Sol Banyan Grande on Saturday.
Hotel staffer said that Seth had asked for a taxi to go back to Bengaluru. Although the staffer suggested her that flying back would be a more efficient option, she persistently stuck to wanting a taxi. The hotel, later, arranged a local taxi for her.
Adding further as reported by TOI, Nidhi Valsan, North Goa SP, said that a police team reached the hotel at around 11 am after being informed about the bloodstain.
We examined the CCTV footage and found Seth to be allegedly leaving the service apartment without her son.
The taxi driver who was driving Seth back to Karnataka was contacted by police. The driver was asked to hand over the phone to Suchana. When officer Naik questioned the her, she claimed that she left her son at a friend’s house in Fatorda and even provided him with details about the house. This address, however, was later found to be fake.
Officer Naik once again called the taxi driver and this time he conversed with him in Konkani language asking him to drive directly to a nearby police station without the knowledge of the accused mother. Following instructions from Naik, the cab driver drove to the Aimangala police station without Suchana realising it.
Motive As Reported By Media
According to an India Today report, Suchana Seth and her husband had filed for divorce. However, Suchana was reportedly unhappy with a court order allowing her estranged husband to meet their son every Sunday. Consequently, she allegedly planned to kill her son just a day before the scheduled meeting.

When the police checked the cab, they recovered the child’s body. According to police, they are not yet certain about the motive behind a mother murdering her own son.
Who is Suchana Seth?
Suchana Seth is the CEO of a Bengaluru-based AI startup named The Mindful AI Lab. She has been leading the organisation for over four years, which focuses on advancements in artificial intelligence.
Qualifications & Work Experience (as reported by NDTV):
Suchana Seth holds a Master’s degree in Physics specialising in Plasma Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Calcutta, where she achieved First Class honours in 2008.
Suchana also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Sanskrit with the First Rank from the Ramakrishna Mission Institute Of Culture, and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics (Honours) with First Class honours from Bhawanipur Education Society College, Kolkata.
She has worked as an affiliate at the Berkman Klein Center for two years, contributing to the ethics and governance of Artificial Intelligence and Responsible machine learning in Boston, Massachusetts.
Before founding The Mindful AI Lab, Suchana Seth was a Senior Data Scientist at Boomerang Commerce in Bangalore. She used to design data-driven products for price optimization and intelligence. She filed two patents during this period. She was also associated with Innovation Labs. Suchana Seth used to work as a senior analytics consultant at the company’s Data Sciences Group.

Venkat Raman, from Kerala, is a very senior IT professional. He was in Indonesia and on his way back to India after police summoned him.

Suchana Seth Domestic Violence Case Orders
Voice For Men India is in receipt of the Domestic Violence Case Orders from Court. While most in the mainstream media have assumed the father to be a domestic abuser, here’s our take on the same:
- Court found “prima facie” evidence of domestic violence by husband Husband had “denied” all charges; his objections to the allegations were “yet to be filed”
- Prima facie means allegations levelled by wife based on her submission of evidence, yet to be “crossed checked & fact checked” after counter arguments & submissions from other side
- The order only states “income of husband”, but no mention whatsoever about the income of CEO wife If the husband was a “domestic abuser” & child was scared of the father, why did court allow child visitation on Sundays?
- This means court never concluded any allegations of him a bad father Let’s assume husband was/is a terrible man, should these charges/allegations of DV be used by anyone to “create sympathy” or “justify this horrific murder by the mother?”
Imagine a man would have murdered his wife, would anyone analyse how cruel the wife was!

- The above case does not make all mothers evil
- However, if the mother in the case is found to be guilty by court, she must receive the harshest punishment, without the sympathy of being a woman or someone going through an alleged failed marital relationship
- Its time we respect parents for their actions irrespective of their gender and not blindly hail and praise every woman who is a mother
