A video from Bihar’s Kaimur district went viral over the weekend, where two female constables were seen thrashing an elderly man in the middle of the road. After huge uproar on social media, Bihar police has issued their official statement in the matter.
Case:
Naval Kishore Pandey, 70-year-old man, has been working as a teacher for forty years.
Last week, Pandey was returning home after teaching some children at a private school when his cycle skidded at a busy area in Bhabhua, some 200 km from state capital Patna. This led to a traffic jam behind him.
Soon, two female constables arrived and asked him to remove the cycle amid the traffic chaos. Pandey was struggling to lift his cycle. Instead of helping the elderly man, the female constables hit him several times with batons for not hurrying up.
The old man can be seen pleading to the women in uniform to let him go, but the duo continue to hit him and shout at him.
Speaking with ANI, Pandey shared,
I was going home from school on a bicycle. While crossing a road at Jaiprakash Chowk, the women constables said something to me, which I ignored and moved forward. Later, they stopped my bicycle from behind and began accusing me of abusing them. They soon started hitting me with sticks. I was hit 20 times.
Police Statement
Quoting to ANI, SP Sharma said,
As soon as the matter came to our notice, we asked the DSP of the area to investigate into the matter and submit the report within 24 hours.
Looking at the preliminary investigation, the SP said that strict action will be taken as soon as the report is received.
Kaimur Police Twitter handle tweeted:
Taking cognizance of the matter related to the viral video, the SP, Kaimur, found guilty in the incident after enquiry and recommended to the DM for action. In light of which both the personnel have been debarred from duty for 3 months.
