Delhi Commission for Women Chairperson Swati Maliwal tweeted a video yesterday, where she is seen accompanied by a police officer and lashing out at a man angrily.
According to the case tweeted by Maliwal, the man in question was the husband of a woman from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, who was battling for her life at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.
Maliwal accused the husband of leaving the woman with 90% burns and also threatening her not to give statement against him or his family.
pic.twitter.com/QlTRkUQIh0

According to Swati Maliwal, the victim who had allegedly suffered 90% burns, informed her that four days ago her husband burnt her by pouring petrol, because he wanted to re-marry another woman.
The Uttar Pradesh Police also registered an FIR in this case, however, the accused man had not been arrested. During Maliwal’s visit to the hospital, she was also informed that the husband in question was present in the premises and allegedly pressurizing his wife not to give a statement against him to the police.
This made Maliwal ‘very angry’ and in a fit of rage, she is seen slapping the husband of the victim woman herself.
The video tweeted by Maliwal showed that the man was handed over to Delhi Police and was asked to be subsequently handed over to Uttar Pradesh Police.
Now, Voice For Men India (earlier known as Men’s Day Out), is not questioning the merits of the case. If the man is guilty, he must be arrested and convicted by law.
The matter of concern was that Delhi Women Commission Chief (DCW) Chief slapped the accused man herself, which led to cheer in social media. Should mob justice be hailed?
Tomorrow if a woman is accused of murdering her husband, can anyone slap her in anger? Should such instances be encouraged or law of the land must prevail?
On the other end, there were many social media users who questioned this behaviour of Maliwal, challenging her authority as DCW Chief.
Here are some of the reactions:
https://t.co/IZIffcYoa0

https://t.co/IYpykpmHg8

Who gives you/her right to slap? Doesn't it count as assault? Just reverse the role and you will cry patriarchy and misogyny. Are you/she law or above the law? @SwatiJaiHind Don't we have law and order in the country? https://t.co/UqJpyNsFYM

Who gave you the authority to slap a Man? If he is guilty our Police and Judiciary will take care of him and he will be punished accordingly. Secondly how can a woman with 90% burns give a statement. Isn't this unbelievable? https://t.co/Hp0BNdrkAX
