In an extremely disturbing video that went viral over the weekend, a woman from Bengaluru was caught on CCTV throwing her own four-year-old daughter from the balcony of their apartment.
The accused mother has been charged with murder and arrested.
Case:
Sushma Bharadwaj, accused woman is a (non-practicing) dentist, while her husband Kiran is a software engineer. The couple got married 12-years ago and had a four-year-old daughter, who was hearing and speech impaired.
According to the police, the mother was apparently depressed due to her child’s physical challenges. She has been arrested after her husband filed a police complaint. The incident was reported from SR Nagar in Bengaluru on Thursday.

The video which went viral over social media shows how the mother throws off her daughter from the balcony of their fourth-floor apartment. After she threw the child, the woman climbed on the railings and stood there for a few seconds, before her family members rushed out, pulled her back and pinned her to the floor.
The child tragically died on the spot.
Police Statement:
According to the statement given by local police to The Hindu,
The couple had a baby girl, who had a speech impairment since two years. She was under medication and Sushma was upset about it, the police said.
On Thursday evening, she was strolling on the balcony outside her house carrying the child and allegedly threw her down before climbing on the railing and shouting for help at the CKC Garden Aditya apartment. The neighbours rushed to her help and pulled her down to safety.
Meanwhile, the child crashed on the ground and lay in a pool of blood. She was picked up by a resident and given first aid before rushing her to a private hospital and then to NIMHANS, where she succumbed.

A senior police officer added,
Prima facie investigations revealed that the mother was not happy about the health issues of the daughter and is said to have committed the crime.
The accused had even tried to get rid of the child by leaving her in a moving train a few months ago. But the father came to know about this and with the help of child helpline members traced the baby near Hassan and brought her back home. However, he did not file a complaint against her then.

As reported by NDTV, Senior police officer Srinivas Gowda said,
We are looking into all angles about the mother’s mental health as well.
