Geeta Arora alias Sonu Punjaban has been convicted last week in a case of kidnapping and prostitution of a minor girl by a city court in Delhi. Sonu Punjaban once reigned the red light area of the capital. In December 2017, Punjaban was arrested in a decade old case led by Team DCP (Crime Branch), Bhisham Singh.
The officers tirelessly worked towards the case as they wanted to convict the accused and have found success in less than three years. Punjaban is currently in judicial custody in Tihar and hasn’t been given the sentence yet. Along with her, five more people have been arrested until now.
The case concerns a 12-year-old girl who was trafficked by Punjaban and her gang in the year 2009. An FIR was filed against her in Najafgarh, under sections of rape, kidnap and also she was charged under the POCSO Act that was registered by family members of the teenager. A extensive hunt was launched to nab this woman.

Police later found out she had five more such criminal cases registered against her. The minor girl concerned in this case was sold several times to different places in Delhi, UP and Haryana. She was raped by different men there. The girl somehow managed to escape the place and reached her home. However, after coming home, she was suffering from depression. She was living in constant fear of her life.
Police recorded her statement and immediately a team was formed to track down Punjaban. The criminal woman was later arrested in Delhi from her hideout.

Sonu Punjaban is presently lodged in Tihar’s jail number 6. On Thursday, she consumed an excess amount of pills meant for headache that she might be collecting for some time. After consuming the medicine she complained of uneasiness and was subsequently admitted to the dispensary situated within the jail premises. Rajkumar, Public Relation officer of Tihar Jail said,
Later, we shifted her to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where her condition is said to be stable. She might be discharged soon.
