Punjab Man Cheated By Wife Of Rs 35 Lakh On Promise Of Getting Spouse Visa In Australia

In yet another cheating incident by wife reported from Punjab, a man’s lost Rs 35 lakh on the pretext of getting him a spouse visa in Australia. The victim of this fraud belongs to Giaspura village, as per a TOI report. 

Case:

24-year-old Harpreet Singh had plans to shift to Australia but could not do so due to his low score in IELTS exam. Meanwhile, he got a proposal for marriage with a girl named Amanjot Kaur who had scored well in the same exam, however, could not afford to go to Australia.

The woman’s family was going through a difficult financial condition after the death of her father.  

Infact Harpreet’s own financial condition was also not sound, eventhough, he sold some of his family assets to arrange for the wedding and sending his wife Amanjot to Australia. The groom reportedly also paid Amanjot’s college fees in Australia. 

The marriage took place in July 2018, and the plan was that Amanjot would call Harpreet to Australia on a spouse visa. After she reached Australia in early 2019, Amanjot took admission at a university for pursuing a particular course. All expenses were borne by Harpreet’s family, including her college fees for two and a half years.

However, Amanjot reportedly made no effort to call Harpreet, once she reached her destination. 

Harpreet even claimed that his visa got rejected twice because Amanjot said she was unmarried. In June this year, he filed a complaint with the NRI Cell of Punjab Police. A case of cheating and criminal conspiracy has been filed against Amanjot, her mother Satya and her brother Avtar Singh at Sahnewal police station. 

These incidents of “Contract Marriage” are not new or shocking. As per recent report, 3600 Punjab Men have been duped of Rs 150 crore in past 5-years. Read below.

In such cases, a mere complaint is registered with the police and the women often switch off their phones or change their numbers. Men have to fight for years, however, there are hardly any instances where money has been returned once pocketed by women and their families. 

Reverse the genders when a man deserts his wife after landing in a foreign land – Indian laws will ensure that his passport is revoked and he is deported back to the country.
