In a shocker from Mumbai, a 40-year-old woman was arrested by the Malvani police on October 5 for allegedly branding her six-year-old niece’s private parts with a hot spoon. The reason for the same was because the minor girl spent Rs 10 on chocolate instead of buying chicken liver.
According to the police, the woman tied up her niece’s hands and branded her several times after stuffing a towel in her mouth. The victim is currently being treated at KEM hospital.
Case:
The minor girl had lost her mother when she was three-years-old, and later, her alcoholic father abandoned her. Since then, the girl was living with her aunt.
As per Arjun Rajane, Inspector, Malwani Police, the sister-in-law of the accused woman filed a complaint on October 4 after she happened to visit the girl and found out the truth.
On September 29, the victim girl was sent to the market by the accused woman to buy chicken liver. She had given Rs 50 to the girl, however, the victim returned home buying a chocolate for Rs 10 instead. This is when the woman got annoyed and allegedly tied up the girl’s hands, muffled her, and branded her private parts.
The sister-in-law mentioned in the complaint that,
She used to make my niece do household work and beat her up for small mistakes. On Saturday, I dropped in to check on the child. I saw that she was in a lot of pain.
She further added,
After a lot of coaxing she told me what had happened and showed me the burns on her private parts. She said her aunt had threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the assault.
Later, the sister-in-law took her niece to the police station and filed a complaint. The police initially admitted the girl at Shatabdi Hospital. She was then shifted to R N Cooper Hospital and subsequently to KEM.
The woman has been booked for attempt to murder and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code as well as under the POCSO Act and Child Labour Act.
