Joint Condemnation Of Barkha Trehan Who Calls Herself As Men’s Rights Activist

Condemnation of Barkha Trehan – whose Twitter bio reads as :

On May 12, Barkha Trehan tweeted,

Getting raped is a fantasy a lot of women have. I have had at least a dozen women tell me that today itself.

To this, Sakshi Joshi– Jounalist rebutted her statement saying,

Dear @barkhatrehan16
To be a voice of men doesn’t mean you will stoop so low in insulting women. I have never come across a single woman like that. Keep your fantasies to yourself than maligning a gender with your cooked up stories. Stop normalising and mocking RAPE

Trehan reverted with an extremely offensive and personal comment to Joshi saying,

Dear @sakshijoshii

Am not insulting anyone. Only stating bitter truth.Women do fantasize rape; it’s a fact. Why would they tell you that,you can’t help them with it,or can you? Don’t make this personal, we all know the fantasies you & your husband have.Bol diya toh pol khul jayegi. (don’t make me spill the beans).

Sakshi wrote back asking her to refrain from mixing her ‘personal fantasies’ with that of women at large. Joshi also said that writing any further on this subject will not only insult the dignity of women but also the men.

The journalist even added asking Trehan not to message her tweets constantly asking for a retweet.

Activists and several individuals who are connected with the Men’s Rights Movement have collectively expressed their condemnation on such comments by Trehan.

We are a group of men’s rights activists concerned with views of someone who presents herself as crusader for men’s rights – Barkha Trehan.

Fight for men doesn’t mean mocking suffering and pain of women. Her recent comment on twitter stating “Getting raped is a fantasy a lot of women have. I have had at least a dozen women tell me that today itself” is shameful, derogatory, demeaning and belittling of a heinous crime like rape.

MRAs stand for justice for all. This movement already faces lot of resistance because of biased social mindset & feminist slamming of Men’s Rights. If opportunists disguising themselves as MRAs make such inane statements for whatever reasons, it’s our collective fight for equal rights & justice that takes a severe hit. We cannot let that happen.

Such statement is thus condemned by us and in no way should be seen as views of MRAs.

Men Welfare Trust under the Save India Family NGO Umbrella also strongly condemns the expressions tweeted by Trehan from her personal handle:

As MRA’s, we at MWT, condemn rape or any crime as a matter of fact. People claiming to be MRA for their own convenience and benefits have been doing a lot of damage in many ways. We want to concentrate on welfare of men and have always been staying away from such self proclaimed MRAs.

Individuals are free to tweet what they assume to be justified and right. However, the same must not be done in the name of Men’s Rights Movement. Requesting the mainstream or digital media to refrain from quoting Trehan’s personal tweets as voice of Men’s Rights Movement in India.
