Some years ago “false rape cases” was something people never believed in and questioned the intentions of anyone who presented the other side of an accused man. However, over the years, and due to lack of any fear of law for false accusers, this seems to have become extremely rampant, as anticipated by Men’s Rights Activists.
A woman in Telangana’s Hyderabad allegedly filed a false complaint stating that she was gang-raped by her neighbour and two of his friends. However, now the woman informed the police that she resorted to lodging a false complaint of gangrape after her neighbour refused to give her a sum of Rs 10,000.
Case:
The complaint is a resident of Golconda area, a divorcee and works as a house help. Two days ago, she approached the Golconda police and lodged a complaint, wherein she accused the owner of a grocery shop in her locality and his two friends of gang-raping her.
The woman alleged that one-month ago, the three men took her out in a car under the pretext of showing her residential property in Shaheen Nagar for rent, as she had to rent a house. They, however, tied her up and sexually assaulted her inside the four-wheeler, she alleged as reported by TOI.
The woman even claimed that she was threatened with a firearm and warned against venturing out of the house by her neighbour. Due to this, she remained indoors for one month. She further alleged that the trio clicked her photographs and threatened that she would show them to other people if she disclosed the crime.
Police Action
On the basis of the woman’s complaint, a case of gangrape was registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The complainant was sent for medical examination.
Golconda inspector K Chandrasekhar Reddy said
The complainant alleged that about a month ago, while she was looking for a house on rent, her neighbour and his two friends convinced her to accompany him in the car to see a house in Shaheen Nagar area. She alleged that the trio had tied her limbs and raped her in the car.
However, on Sunday, the case took a shocking turn when the woman arrived at the police station and informed that she had filed a fake complaint. On of the police officers told TOI,
On Sunday, the complainant came to the police station and gave a statement saying that she had lodged a false complaint against the neighbour as he refused to give her Rs 10,000 when she requested the amount for medical treatment.
The police have sought legal opinion for taking appropriate action. The details of the FIR lodged on the basis of the woman’s complaint, and the latest statement given by her have been sent for legal advice, the officer said.
