Domestic Violence on Men in India has been overlooked by society as well as media. A male teacher from Kadma Bhatia locality in Jamshedpur has been allegedly assaulted and tortured by his wife. The man has been pleading for justice after filing a complaint with the Kadma police station.
The victim has even shown his injuries caused by wife to the police. Read in detail below.
Case:
Gunjan Kumar Chaudhary, is a resident of Lalan Singh apartment in Kadma Bhatia locality. He has lodged a written complaint against his wife accusing her to have tortured him. According to Shekhar Chaudhary, father of the victim, his son got married in 2017 to the alleged accused woman, and since that day she started torturing him mentally and physically.
As reported by a local daily, the father also showed the injury marks on his son’s body, while claiming the same were caused by his daughter-in-law. Shekhar said that his son had been tortured by latter’s wife with a hot iron rod.

Gunjan has not only been suffering physically after these assaults, but he has been undergoing mental trauma as well. The father has also claimed that the son has lost his mental balance and his health has been deteriorated due to his wife’s cruelty.
Chaudhary’s in-laws, on the other hand, have alleged that their daughter (the accused woman) has been tortured since marriage.
A case has been registered after Gunjan’s complaint, however, no action has been taken in the case yet.

Often in such scenarios, even when police has evidence of physical torture from the husband, they tend to overlook the same by merely registering the matter. Arrest of a cruel and physically violent wife generally happens only when the act is extremely serious or in case of murder.
In all other situations, the man is asked to return to his home and co-habit with the same domestic abuser, because they call it ‘Ghar Ka Maamla’ (family matter). If genders get reversed and women even register a complaint without evidence, men and their families are arrested at once. Such is the nature of our Gender Biased Laws in India.
