Delhi Police Gives Clean Chit To Girl Who Impersonated Herself As Boy & Sent Rape Threats

The ‘Bois Locker room’ controversy takes yet another shocking turn. The week long debate over school boys from Delhi sharing obscene photographs and conversation on an instagram group brings some new details to the fore. It is important to note that Bois Locker Room chats were different from the Snapchat screen shot which used the term ‘rape’ and ‘sexual assault’.

After instant action by DCW Chief Swati Maliwal and supreme court of social media uproar, Delhi Police had registered a case in the matter and started investigating it. However a while ago, new reports have emerged wherein a particular screenshot of an account called ‘Siddharth’ who was suggesting the ‘rape’ of a girl was not handled by any boy, but infact being run by the same girl.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Cell) Anyesh Roy in a press statement about the investigation has revealed,

The alleged Snapchat conversation is actually between a girl (sender) and a boy (receiver) in which the girl is sending chat messages through a fictional Snapchat account named ‘Siddharth’.

Roy also added,

Using the fake identity of a male person, she suggested in the chat, a plan to sexually assault herself.

As per reports, the purpose of her sending such chat messages using a fake, fictional identity was to check the reaction of the receiver boy and the strength of his character, specially when someone talks bad things about the girl herself.

The boy (receiver), however, refused to participate in the discussion, took screen shots of the texts and informed about the to his friends, including the girl who had sent the texts using a false account. Reportedly, the girl was very much aware that the account of ‘Siddharth’ which suggested comments such as ‘rape’ and ‘sexual assault’ was a fake and fictional one, created by her own self and thus did not report it to anyone.

On Friday, the Delhi Police gave a clean chit to a teenager. The police said the girl did not have any “malicious intention to defraud or cheat anyone using that fake profile and hence no case will be made out”.

Though making a fake profile amounts to impersonation, but in this case, the girl did not make a profile with a purpose to cheat someone, or do a fraud. There is no mens rea (intention) to commit a crime here. Hence, no case will be made out.

Chats Suggesting ‘Rape’ Are Not Linked To Bois Locker Room

The police in the statement has claimed that neither of the two were in any way related to the Bois Locker Room Instagram Group, either through their real or fake usernames.

While efforts are also being made to identify and interview the remaining of the group members of the ‘Bois Locker Room’ as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, one accused has been held while another juvenile has been apprehended and devices of persons concerned have been seized and sent for forensic analysis, further investigations are on.

The Cyber Cell of Delhi Police had shot off a fresh letter yesterday to social media platform Instagram for more details in the case of ‘Bois Locker Room’, a group chat where college and school-going boys allegedly shared obscene photos of minor girls, objectified them and discussed gang-raping them.
