On Wednesday, Delhi police arrested a woman for conning people by wearing a police uniform and excelling in copying every detail. The con woman would charge challans to a tune of Rs 500 from citizens for allegedly not wearing masks on the street during the pandemic.
The accused has been identified as 20-year-old Tamanna Jahan, who is unemployed. According to Delhi police, she would dress up exactly like policewoman and would flash a star on her shoulder as well. Her fake uniform also had a nameplate so that nobody could doubt her fake identity. Tamanna used to keep a challan book with her — if anybody would be caught roaming on the streets without wearing masks, she would charge a fine from them.
Jahan had also excelled in copying every detail of dressing up like a policewoman, to an extent wherein even if any police would pass by her, they wouldn’t even recognise her being fake. For making citizens take her seriously, she would call herself an ASI and also talk to people sternly, so that no one could question her.

On August 12, Tamanna went out in the morning like always to search for people without masks, based on which she could charge them. One of the constables patrolling in the area found her to be indulging in suspicious activities and he immediately approached Tilak Nagar Police station.
A team of police reached the spot without any delay and arrested her. They are now investigating the case and also looking out for all details such as, her fake uniform, challan book, nameplate amongst others, she had bought for projecting herself as a policewoman. The officers are also enquiring from where did she acquire all these props.
Later on August 13, Delhi Police West officially shared the con woman’s image and stated,
FAKE LADY ASI ISSUING COVID CHALLANS NABBED Tamanna Jahan couldn’t outsmart HC Satish & CT Ashok/PS Tilak Nagar while issuing challans for COVID violations to the unsuspecting violators as ASI in fake uniform. Booked accordingly. @HMOIndia @LtGovDelhi @CPDelhi @ANI @DelhiPolice
Police Laid Trap
Ashok went without a mask… Jahan stopped Ashok and told him to pay fine for not wearing a mask. When he asked her about her posting, she said she is posted at Tilak Nagar police station as an ASI. Ashok then told the woman that he too works there and has never seen her. The woman panicked and couldn’t show a police ID card to the constable.
A team lead by ASI Bhom Singh and a woman constable later apprehended Jahan and arrested her. During questioning, she told police she allegedly carried out the scam as she needed money for her family. A senior police officer told media,
She recently got married against her parents’ wishes and didn’t have any money… So she decided to pose as an ASI so she could scare offenders and take money from them in the name of Covid challan. She was also preparing for UPSC… she gave the exam earlier but couldn’t clear it.
A fake challan book, cash and police uniform were recovered.
