“Husband Posting Abusive Comments Against Wife On Social Media Is Domestic Violence”: Gujarat Court
Case:
Actor Karthik Kumar got married with singer Suchitra in 2005. However, the couple got separated in 2017 (12-years after living together as husband and wife). The main reason behind their separation was because the wife had made certain controversial statements about Kollywood stars.
Karthik Kumar had then accused Suchitra of being mentally unstable. Post their divorce, Karthik remarried actress Amrutha Srinivasan in 2021 and the couple has been leading their life peacefully since then.
Now, in 2024, almost after seven years to their divorce, Karthik’s ex-wife Suchitra made a derogatory comments against him publicly, accusing him of ‘being gay’.
The ex-wife has been giving multiple interviews over the past few weeks to a few Tamil YouTube channels in which she has not just defamed Karthik, but also dragged in actors namely, Dhanush, Trisha, Andrea Jeremaiah, and Rajinikanth’s daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth.
In one of the interviews, Suchitra claimed that Karthik and Dhanush were gay. She also alleged that the infamous ‘Suchi leaks’ incident was orchestrated by Karthik and Dhanush as a ‘prank’, where in 2017, her Twitter account had leaked private photos and videos of several celebrities alleging immoral activities by them.
The ex-wife also accused Karthik Kumar having a gay encounter with Karan Johar and Shah Rukh Khan in London, suggesting that they often visited countries where ‘gay sex was legal’.

Through this defamation case, Karthik Kumar has claimed Rs 1 crore in compensation from his Suchitra tarnishing his image.
As per The News Minute report, Karthik demanded Suchitra to immediately issue a public apology, retract her statements and stop making any further derogatory remarks. He also said that making such slanderous remarks was in violation of the terms of their divorce.
Madras High Court
This defamation case came up for hearing on May 24 at the Madras High Court, where Justice PB Balaji issued an interim gag order against Suchitra from making any further public statement about her ex-husband. The next hearing for the case has been scheduled to happen for July 1.
Voice For Men India Opinion:
- Every single individual has right to respect and dignity in society
- If he/she has done a legal wrong, the other spouse (particularly the wife) has an absolute right to drag him to court
- However, no one has any authority to make malicious comments against the other, at the time of living as husband and wife, or even after divorce
- Its high time men start dragging such women to court to make them accountable and not let them get away, from finding some fame through victimhood, by slandering an ex-husband
- Voice For Men India would suggest that men must even make all Media / Youtube Channels party to these defamation suits, where they permit one-sided allegations by women
- Can any man ever get away by speaking a word against his ex-wife’s wrong openly? He would be served with multiple notices instantly then
- In this case, the husband is a public figure with means to take a legal route, however, there are many common middle class men, who are also suffering this one-sided naming and shaming their families by disgruntled wives on social media
- If women expect respect, they must toe the line in imparting respect as well
- If women cross their limits of defaming the men unilaterally, they should be open to equal amount of public retaliation from the men as well
- For far too long, women have been given an unfair advantage to get away with unverified sob stories and testimonies against the other gender
- The way all women are not innocent, all men too may not be the holiest, but civility and decorum must be maintained from both sides so that all can co-exist with honour in society
