The Suchana Seth child murder case had sent shock waves in the country this January. The Bengaluru based AI start-up founder was arrested on charges of murdering her four-year-old son.
Suchana Seth has been accused under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) of the Indian Penal Code and section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act, 2003.
Here’s a detailed update on the case as reported by The Indian Express.
Police Investigation
The Goa police examined 59 witnesses in the matter, post which they have filed a 642-page chargesheet at the Children’s Court in Panaji. According to the chargesheet, the four-year-old child died as a result of “shock and respiratory asphyxia” caused by “strangulation” and there was no “common poison” found in the body.
We must remind our readers that this was a classic case of Parental Alienation, where the couple was amidst a matrimonial battle and the mother (Suchana Seth) wanted to stop access between the child and his father.
As per a December 9, 2022 order, the father was permitted a video call with his son every Tuesday & Thursday from 7-7.30pm. As per another April 10, 2023 order, the father was granted permission to meet his son every alternate Saturday between 11am to 1pm at the family court vistitation centre. However, the custodial parent (the mother in this case) used all tactics to stop this bonding.
The police chargesheet has recorded the same. Adding further, the chargesheet reads:
The viscera examination report has been received from the Goa State Forensic Science Laboratory in Verna, in which it is opined that common poison could not be detected in the contents of the exhibits.

The police also found a message written in black ink on torn pieces of tissue paper, and this became a key part of the chargesheet. The note allegedly written by the accused mother claimed that the child did not want to return to the father. The note read as follows:
My ex-husband and the family court judge are threatening to send me to jail if I don’t send my 4-year-old son against his will. My lawyer can’t find a way to keep my son safe. I can’t bear this.
Note Could Become Murder Motive
While the forensic report on the handwriting match is awaited, according to investigators, this note “could help the police to establish motive” for the crime.
The police in their chargesheet have concluded that Suchana is “sharp in mind and capable of misleading the investigation”.
Note: Media, Social Media & Feminists had promptly given the accused mother “Mental Health Benefit” when she was arrested.
