For years, Indian society at large argues against the concept of love marriage. According to the majority, arranged marriages are best where it is not just a union of two individuals but two families as a whole.
However, over the years, arranged marriages have been reduced to planned/unplanned traps – could be true for both grooms as well as brides. While women have most laws in their favour to come out of such deceitful relationships, men on the other hand do not have much recourse.
A social media user on X narrated one such incident as below.
His Story
One of my college friend was getting married next month in an arranged setup. Even though she had a boyfriend, her family made her break up with him and got her engaged to a guy chosen by them.
As the wedding plans were underway, she had to go to Mumbai for work, where her ex-boyfriend lived. Despite our advice against meeting him, she not only met him but also stayed together in a hotel. Meanwhile, while shopping for the wedding, she logged into her email on her fiance’s laptop. Gmail notified an event about a hotel booking in Mumbai with +1 on her name to the fiance’s laptop.
Suspecting something, he traveled from Pune to the hotel address and caught them together, leading to the cancellation of the marriage.
Now, the girl’s family is threatening not to call off the wedding, citing the significant expenses incurred and the fear of damage of reputation in the community. In today’s world, people have turned dating, marriage, and relationships into a joke. It’s really scary not knowing whom you are getting married to. What if the guy had never found out about this? Don’t know who to blame for it.
I feel sorry for the guy, he had nothing to do with any of these things but had to go through such mess. We got to know, he had never been in a relationship, and was a typical family-oriented guy.
Voice For Men India Take:
- Unfortunately, there is no 100% guarantee of having a successful partnership before or after marriage
- While all arranged marriages are not planned to con the other party, before getting into such an alliance, it is strongly advisable for both sides to get a basic verification check done for your would-be spouse
- Run online searches, meet the person multiple times to analyse if there are any red flags, many also hire detective agencies to do background checks of either parties
- Unless you are sure, do not make commitments in a rush because the other side is compelling you to do a roka/engagement
- Sadly, if you get trapped despite knowing certain unpleasant realities, be prepared to fight it out legally
