A chilling murder in the financial capital of India has not reached mainstream media debates, because the accused happens to be a woman. In a horrifc case reported from Mumbai, a 24-year-old woman has been arrested on Wednesday for allegedly killing her mother and cutting her into pieces at their house at Lalbaug.
The Mumbai police in their press release informed media that the accused daughter stayed with her deceased mother’s remains at the house for over two months till the incident came to light on Tuesday.

Case:
Veena Prakash Jain (55) used to live with her husband and their daughter Rimple Jain in Virar (outskirts of the city). However, after the demise of her husband 16-years-ago, the mother and daughter shifted to Ibrahim Kasar Chawl in Lalbaug. Veena had two brothers and five sisters.
According to the police, on Tuesday evening, when one of Veena’s nieces went to the Lalbaug house to give her money for monthly expenses, Rimple did not open the door. When the niece inquired about them from the neighbours, she was informed that no one had seen Veena for over two months.
Police Statement
Speaking with The Indian Express, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone IV) Pravin Munde said,
The niece informed her mother and an aunt, who went to the Lalbaug house. As they kept on knocking on the door, Rimple opened the door after sometime but closed it soon after.

Following this, some of Veena’s relatives forced themselves inside the house. An officer added,
Rimple allegedly told them that Veena was in Kanpur. The relatives took Rimple to Kalachowkie police station, where a missing person’s complaint was filed on the basis of a complaint by Veena’s elder brother Sureshkumar Porwal.
The officer shared the the police team then visited the Lalbaug house. He quoted:
We searched the house and found Veena’s remains. Rimple had cut her hands and legs, which were kept in a water tank. Her torso and the head were wrapped in a plastic bag and kept inside the cupboard.
The remains were sent to KEM hospital for postmortem and subsequently, Rimple was questioned. She allegedly told the police that Veena had fallen off the first floor on December 27, 2022.
The officer further said:
Two persons working at a Chinese eatery located below their house had helped Veena and took her back to her house. Veena had sustained injuries on her head and other body parts but was not taken to a doctor. She may have succumbed to her injuries.
Munde then said,
We are unsure how Veena Jain was killed. There used to be verbal altercations between the mother and daughter.
Another officer said,
Rimple was scared that everyone would blame her for Veena’s death and decided to cut her body into pieces and dispose the same. She used an electric marble cutter, sickle and a knife. However, she could not dispose the body parts and kept the remains in a cupboard and water tank.
Watched Crime Patrol Series
While investigating the matter, police officials have said that an episode of the television show ‘Crime Patrol’ ‘inspired’ Rimple to commit the heinous crime. Cops reportedly claimed that the daughter had been regularly watching ‘Crime Patrol,’ and this is where she got the idea of getting the body disposed of discreetly.
Rimple has been booked on charges of murder and destruction of evidence and was produced before court today.
