In an unfortunate incident reported from Pune, Maharashtra, an ex-army man shot dead his estranged wife and also opened fire at his mother-in-law from point-blank distance from his licensed revolver on Tuesday. The shooting took place near Civil Court premises at Shirur, around 70 kilometres from Pune.
Case:
Deepak Pandurang Dhavale (45) is a retired Army personnel. He was married to Manjula Dhavale (40). The couple has two daughters aged 14 and 10. Due to domestic disputes, Manjula was staying with her parents for the past few months, along with their daughters.
According to a report by TOI, additional superintendent of police Milind Mohite said,
The deceased woman, Manjula and Deepak were having domestic issues and she had filed a case for alimony in the court. She reached Shirur with her mother for the hearing of the case when Deepak fired at her and she succumbed to the bullet injuries.
Deepak also opened fire at his mother-in-law Tulsabai Ranganath Zambre (55), however, she sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment, however, currently stable.
The broad daylight shooting took place inside the public works department (PWD) compound which is adjacent to the court premises, Pune rural police officials said.
Murder
Deepak and his brother Sandeep, both from Ambarnath in Thane district, travelled to Shirur in an auto rickshaw for the scheduled court hearing regarding alimony. Police officials told media that the trio initially had an argument, after which the husband pulled out a pistol and fired. Manjula died on the spot after being hit by two bullets. It was the final hearing in the case, police said.
Manjula was laying in a pool of blood, while the crowd gathered around her. A few of them rushed her along with the injured mother to the hospital. Abhinav Deshmukh, superintendent of police told Hindustan Times,
The shooting took place around 12pm on the premises of the public works department, which is located next to the civil court.
The Dhavale brothers later fled in the same auto-rickshaw they had come in though police arrested them on the Pune-Ahmednagar highway near Ranjangaon. Deshmukh added,
We have arrested both Deepak Dhavale and his brother Sandeep. Local staff from Ranjangaon police station chased them and recovered the weapon too.

Husband Was Out Of Job
Inspector Sureshkumar Raut of the Shirur police told TOI that Dhavale had applied for a gun licence while he was in the service to take up a job of a private security guard after retirement. Raut said,
Being an ex-serviceman, he got the licence. Dhavale worked at a private security agency for about a year. Currently, he is jobless.
Manjula Was Daughter Of Deepak’s Maternal Uncle
Raut added Manjula was the daughter of Deepak’s maternal uncle, who during questioning, informed the police,
Deepak was frustrated because his wife and daughters were not staying with him. He claimed that he wanted to use the money he got after retirement for his daughters’ education. He was upset as his wife had filed the alimony case.
