Malayalam actor and producer Vijay Babu has been booked for rape after a woman, also an actor, accused him of sexually assaulting her for movie roles. On the other hand, Vijay Babu has denied the allegations and said he “won’t let her get away easily”.
Case:
On April 22, the complainant actor filed a case against actor Vijay Babu, alleging that he physically assaulted her and sexually exploited her from March 13 to April 14, 2022. The victim, in a post on the Facebook group named Women Against Sexual Harassment, has elaborated on the details of the alleged sexual assault.
Vijay Babu is charged with sexual assault, criminal intimidation, and wilfully inflicting harm under sections 376, 506, and 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Allegations by Woman
The victim, in her complaint, alleged that Vijay Babu had tortured her several times at his apartment in Ernakulam by promising her better opportunities in the film industry. Later, Vijay Babu was charged with rape and causing grievous physical harm. The police have not yet been able to question him on the matter.
The victim began her post by saying that she had known him for a few years in the industry and had worked with him for a movie. She alleged that throughout this time he had gained her trust by being friendly and advising her, as she was a newcomer in the film industry with no proper guidance. She quoted,
He behaved like my saviour for my personal and professional problems but sexually exploited me.
The woman also accused the actor of assaulting her for refusing to have sex with him. She said,

One day he stamped on my stomach when I refused to have sex on my periods. He spat on my face and forced himself on me. I was too traumatised to realise what was happening at that time but today I realise I was raped.
He had recorded a nude video of mine and threatened me with it. I was scared for my safety. I am not keeping my mouth shut anymore. I can’t take this pain anymore. I strongly believe I will get justice. No one should go through this pain and trauma in their life.
Police said the woman actor had filed a complaint with Kochi police on April 22, and they subsequently registered a rape case against Vijay Babu. Hours after the case was registered against him, Babu went live on Facebook and revealed the name of the woman, claiming innocence and that he is the real victim.
Kochi City Police Deputy Commissioner V U Kuriakose said another case has been registered against the actor on charges of disclosing the name of the rape survivor. He said,
A probe is on. He has gone into hiding after the rape case was registered.
Vijay Babu’s Statement
Babu has been active in the film industry for over a decade and is the founder of film production company ‘Friday Film House’ that has around half-a-dozen productions to his credit.
Babu said he had known the woman since 2018 and she was given a chance to act in his productions.
She had sent several messages to me saying that she is facing depression. I have around 400 screen shots of those messages. I haven’t sent any message to her for the last one-and-a-half years.
Babu said he will file a complaint against the woman for tarnishing his image. He stated,
I will file a defamation case against the complainant. Let it be the beginning of a new Me Too. Let us start a new fight.
Vijay Babu also claimed,
I respect the law of the nation, but I am the victim, and my identity has been revealed. Why shouldn’t the other party’s identity be revealed as well?
#MeToo is back to hound Indian Film Industry. However, the macro question still remains whether random naming and shaming Men must be permitted outside the purview of our legal system.
If name of the “alleged rape survivor” must not be disclosed, why should a Man’s character be tarnished before any verbal allegations proven or conviction by court?
