IT Software Engineer Found Dead At Home With Bullet Injury | Separated Wife Lodges Police Complaint

A tragic incident has been reported from Pune, Maharashtra where an IT software engineer was found dead with a gunshot injury in his neck on October 10. The police detained two of his friends who were present with him during a party inside the flat on the day the incident took place.

Case:

Ganesh Yashwant Tarlekar (47), a resident of Sunflower society, Kondhwa, was found dead with a bullet injury from the neck into his head.

According to an FIR lodged with the Kondhwa police, the deceased is married and has a 14-year old son. He was not getting along with his wife who had left him and was staying at her mother’s house for the past one year, reported Hindustan Times.

The friends who were detained by police, informed that Ganesh had died by suicide with a pistol.

The Sassoon General Hospital, in its post-mortem report, certified the cause of Tarlekar’s death due to bullet injuries sustained to his left chin and brain

Police Statement

Inspector Sardar Patil, Kondhwa police station told TOI,

We arrested the duo, Sagar Binavat (33) and Dattatraya Hajare (47), on suspicion as they were with Tarlekar when the shooting happened. They claimed Tarlekar shot himself with a country-made pistol he had procured from a source not known to them.

Adding further, Patil said,

He was found with a bullet injury from the neck upwards into the head. His two friends have been detained and interrogation has taken place. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the duo said that the deceased shot himself with the pistol after which they ran away out of the flat with the pistol and locked the flat from outside. They later threw the pistol into a well and the policemen used a magnet to bring out the firearm.

Inspector also said that the two accused men were justifying their fear of police action. He quoted,

However, instead of reporting the matter to the police, the two men left the place and dumped the firearm in a well at Yevalewadi. On Tuesday(Oct 12), we recovered the firearm and it is being sent to ballistic experts for an analysis.

The two men are justifying their act by citing fear of police action and they haven’t been able to explain their conduct properly. However, the victim’s wife lodged a complaint suspecting the involvement of the two men in her husband’s death.

The police produced the two men before a local court which ordered their custodial remand till October 17. For almost a day, Tarlekar’s body remained unnoticed in his flat. Investigating officer and inspector (crime) Jagannath Jankar told TOI,

It is possible that in a restricted environment like a flat, the noise of a bullet shot from is not heard by neighbours. In this instance, there were two immediate neighbours and both told the police they did not hear any noise.

Jankar said,

The motive behind the incident is not clear yet. Nothing was stolen from the flat. The conduct of the two men is suspicious and we feel they are not sharing vital details required for putting together the chain of events.
