Mumbai Police has done it once again….! Several cops of the city police rushed to the doorstep of a man on Thursday and helped him change his decision of ending his life.
The man who resides in the Kandivali area of Mumbai, had himself called the police, after having issues with his fiancée.
Here’s What Happened
On learning that a Kandivali resident was contemplating suicide after a dispute with his fiancée, 15 cops from two police stations instantly rushed in to the man’s home.
An officer from the area police station said that they received a phone call from the main control room at 11am that a 35-year-old man from Maharashtra Nagar was about to end his life. Acting on the information, police teams from Kandivali and Charkop police stations reached the spot. The officer told TOI,
We got his address and reached the location within six minutes. But when we rang his doorbell, he said he had resolved the issues with his fiancée, and was in a better frame of mind. The man and his fiancee had a heated argument earlier.
The man said he was staying with his friend now, and assured the investigators that he would not take any drastic step. He left for work after the police counselled him.
While we must commend the response time undertaken by Mumbai Police, we also urge Maharashtra and every other state government to begin Counselling Cells exclusively for Men in distress. While India has National Commission and State Commissions for Women, we lack of similar forums for the Other Gender – which leads to such unfortunate state of mind for Men.
The above scenario ended well, however, in many cases, media ends up publishing such stories only after the Man has already taken the extreme step.
