Smriti Irani Responds To Men’s Rights Activist Sharing Her Views About Gender Biased Laws

A few days after the release of the Thappad trailer, Union Minister Smriti Irani gave a thumbs up to the film via her Instagram account. On Sunday, Irani shared a snippet from the trailer of the Anubhav Sinha-directed film, starring Taapsee Pannu, on her social media profile and wrote that she would “definitely watch the film” irrespective of the fact that she has “different political ideologies” from that of the film’s director and the actor. She quoted,

I might not support the political ideology of the director or may disagree with some actors on some issues but this is a story that I will definitely watch and hope people watch it with their families.

In her post, Smriti Irani talked about instances where women have to “adjust” under circumstances involving domestic abuse and are often brushed away with remarks like “aurat ko hi adjust karna padta hai” and “ki educated aadmi kabhi haath nahi uthata,” to name a few. She signed off her post, saying,

It’s not okay to hit a woman… Not even a slap. Not even just one slap.

Unexpectedly, Irani reverted saying,

humanist ?

Tiwari too responded to the minister quoting,

There is nothing called humanist. With due respect had you read about RCR, DV and 498a you would have known how dangerous is all that. There is a chronology (in the words of respectable Amit Shah ji).

While we thought, the interaction would end there, Irani once again reverted saying,

Mam I have worked in the field and helped men & women. If you don’t understand the concept of humanism or for that matter look at me myopically from the prism of an ism that’s your call ?

With all due respect , I would like to request you to leave that seat of yours for a few days and live with us like the general population. You will get to see how we get harassed accosted on petty cases, without the presence of a solid male grievance redressal system. We suffer on the hands of women just because they have an upper hand owing to our JUDICIAL SYSTEM’s congenital assumption of them being a VICTIM !

Political parties in the pursuit of virtue Signalling have created a society which inherently believes women and not men despite evidences. I would like to request you to properly look into every nook and corner of the fake cases which amounted to be approx 70 to 80% out of total case reported !

This is the issue she has huge concern over this but not on legal, domestic, social violence on men which they receive in everyday life, whenever whichever way they get harassed, threatened to get booked in false legal battles, blackmailing , honey trap etc ,they don’t even have a single law in constitution to address this having 78% male suicide rate , they r victim of domestic violence too but no one make movies on them bcz they receive just a suicide helplessly , if she is a humanist has she ever raised concern ?

How abt the legal notice from woman for illegal terrorism? Under sections 498A, 323, 3, 4, 505,504,506,375,125,29 etc just on the basis of verbal complaint. Entire family pulled in cases even a girl or women in family.

And then there were several other Men Vs Women comments which were posted from both sides. Many comments written in favour of the movie are equally valid, because we as Men surely do not believe domestic violence doesn’t happen on women. Smriti Irani is the union minister for Woman and Child Welfare Ministry and fully justified in promoting zero tolerance towards domestic violence against women.

However, what we want society to realise is, even if DV on Men is less in numbers comparatively, this harsh reality should not be overlooked by any government.

Thappad showcases the story of a happily married couple until one day the husband slaps his wife in front of a few guests at a house party, after which the wife decides to walk out of the marriage.

When the trailer was released on January 31, this is exactly what we questioned. You have a WCD Minister coming out in full support of a woman facing injustice in her matrimonial home, but where does a man and his family go in case of reverse? There is no Ministry or Commission for Men and thus you never have any concrete numbers recorded on the number of Men committing suicide due to harassment by wives and her parents.

All a woman needs to do is go and register a complaint to the police and her word is taken as the gospel truth. But in case of verbal and physical abuses hurled at Men, there is no family welfare commission that can fairly listen to both sides.

If we are striving for Equality, it must be Equal. We encourage every possible right and encouragement for women empowerment, but at the same time we also demand Gender Neutral Laws. Women should not be allowed to misuse domestic violence acts as a tool to harass husbands and extort money from them in the form of Alimony.
