Superstition in India still exists. Often it has nothing to do with class or education. It is a belief one chooses to live with. One such case comes to the fore from Punjab, where a wife tied her husband with chains for nearly two months. This is the reason.
Wife Lakshmi tied her husband Shravan Kumar with chains for two months and imprisoned him in the house. Now the husband has been pleading to her to free him, however, the woman is not feeling bad in anyway for the man.
The incident reported is from Baharampur Road in Gurdaspur. Despite several people requesting and convincing the wife, she is not ready to release Shravan Kumar. The wife alleges that her husband learnt black magic from a Baba (saint) in the village of Tung and thereafter started using the same on her family. She also claims that everyone in the home started falling ill since the time her husband got involved in this activity.

Not just this, the wife believes that since the time she has chained him, everybody has started recovering in the house. She is now unwilling to release him, unless he gives her in writing that he will not perform black magic again.
The husband on other hand has claimed that he neither knows any Baba nor knows how to do any magic. He pleads to be set free however, no one is coming for his help.
The question above is not whether the man really did black magic or not. The issue is how can a woman take law in her own hands and chain the man, which is against basic human right? How can law allow a woman to treat her husband the way she wants, just because of a superstition that she believes in? Where is the police?
If the reverse would have been reported, surely the headline would read how India is a patriarchal society where women are still ill-treated. But such human atrocities on Men become a matter of laughter for many, while they do not foresee how they themselves (men) will also face the same someday soon.
