As a Man, if I had a relationship (both physical and emotional) with a girl, who promised to marry me but later backtracked, what options do I have? Well I better back off, else be ready to be booked in rape/harassment case. However, when the situation is reversed, a woman does have an option of actually forcing the man to marry her against his wishes.
Case:
- A Pune man was forced to marry a woman, with whom he had allegedly had a relationship, in the ICU of a hospital at Chakan in Pune district
- The woman had claimed that her boyfriend Suraj Nalavade, had forced her to have a physical relationship with him on pretext of marriage
- When he later denied taking the relationship further, she tried to end her life by consuming poison and was rushed to a hospital and admitted to ICU
- On November 27, some members of a little-known local outfit caught hold of Nalavade on the same day, and took him to the ICU
- They also forced him to `marry’ her by exchanging garlands’
- Three days later, Nalavade disappeared, snapping all contact with the woman
- Later, the woman filed a case of rape under IPC section 376 and under relevant provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against him
An official of Chakan police station quoted:
When the lady asked him to marry her, he allegedly refused, saying she was from a lower caste. Further probe is on.
Our Take:
- Women, we as Men fail to understand how can you get physical with anyone on “Pretext” of something – be it marriage, job, promotion, others
- When you choose to have sex with a man, knowing well that you are doing it for a bargain, why even allow the man to take advantage?
- Sex on pretext of something, sounds more like a contract than a genuine relationship
- Yes, if the man forced himself upon you or threatened you to get physical, you have all the right to get him booked
- But when you don’t get something in return of a ‘physical relationship’, you cannot abuse the consensual moments as Rape
